The Hub Gasines Project by EnP Presents a New Solution for the Flow of Natural Gas Produced Offshore in Rio de Janeiro and Espírito Santo
The new project by Energy Plataform, called Hub Gasines, has been studied by EnP for eight months to commercialize the gas produced along the southeastern coast of Brazil, both from Pre-Salt and Post-Salt. The project will feature pipelines of up to 150 km. Jurong Aracruz Shipyard Opens Positions for Free Welding, Electrical, and Administrative Courses in the Industrial Apprenticeship Program

The project under study, which aims to stimulate competition and increase production, will be installed in shallow waters, at the border of Rio de Janeiro with Espírito Santo. EnP is seeking partnerships for investments ranging from US$ 350 million to US$ 400 million, and the system will have a flow capacity of 15 to 20 million m³/day of gas.
The project will have a jacket that will be used as an Operations and Distribution Center (COD). The hub will receive pipelines from various producers and will flow the production through different connections. Under this scope, the gas can be processed in treatment units located along the axis of Rio de Janeiro and Espírito Santo.

So far, the exact location of the hub has not been determined. The project’s location will be chosen in the future based on the project’s progress, but the trend is that most of it will remain in Rio de Janeiro.
Initially, the hub will have only a stretch of pipeline to the coast. In the future, the goal is to ensure the arrival of gas at five different points – Macaé, Porto do Açu, Porto Central, Anchieta, and Linhares.
EnP’s plan is to seek resources and partners throughout 2021, also initiating the detailing and environmental licensing project. If everything goes as expected, Félix projects that the construction of Hub Gasines could begin in 2022, with operations planned for 2023.
The Hub Gasines coordinated by EnP will be implemented through a special purpose company (SPC). EnP’s intention is to attract groups from the entire gas chain that can invest in the project. The focus is directed towards producing companies, gas plant owners, and consumers.
“The moment is opportune, considering that Petrobras is announcing new divestments in the old Campos Basin, such as Marlim, Albacora, and Albacora Leste, which could be stimulated precisely because of this possibility,” says Márcio Félix, president of EnP.
Some Characteristics Make Hub Gasines a Transformative Project:
- Interconnection and greater flexibility of the flow network;
- Utilization of available gas processing and transportation capacities;
- Competitive alternative to injection;
- Facilities for gas storage;
- Interiorization of gas, especially for Minas Gerais.
- In addition to the technology, an innovation lies in the management of the simultaneous use of different assets of midstream, existing or planned, in the states of Rio, Espírito Santo, and Minas Gerais, with indirect effects in São Paulo.
