The implementation of a Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) terminal at the Port of Itaqui will guarantee new opportunities for the local productive sector
With the support of the Government of Maranhão, the Department of Industry, Commerce and Energy (Seinc) and the company Eneva have invested in the use of natural gas produced in the state. Now, a new step has been taken in this partnership: the implementation of a LNG (liquefied natural gas) terminal at the Port of Itaqui (or surroundings), in São Luís.

Yesterday (20), Eneva announced the signing of a cooperation agreement with Servtec Investimentos e Participações to evaluate the development of a liquefied natural gas terminal.
State Government continues to work together with Eneva aiming to increase gas supply in Maranhão.
The forecast is that companies set up a j in which Eneva would hold 51% of the total shares and Servtec will hold the remaining 49%. In a note, Eneva stated that the final decision to invest in the terminal is subject to “the conclusion of the assessments and the obtaining of the necessary licenses and authorizations for the implementation of the project”.
Secretary Simplício Araújo, from Seinc, pointed out that the State Government continues to work together with Eneva, aiming to increase the supply of gas in Maranhão.
“Throughout our management, we have carried out important dialogues with Eneva, always thinking about expanding the gas production chain in the State. This announcement made by the company and Servtec demonstrates that we are on the right track, towards greater development in Maranhão”, pointed out the secretary.
According to Eneva's announcement, the cooperation agreement also provides for the right of exclusivity until December 30, 2022 - after that date, the first refusal until December 30, 2023, the company will be released to develop, manage and explore the LNG terminal together with Servtec.
