New International Airport in Tourist City of Interior SP, with Multimillion-Dollar Works, Cargo Flight Structure, Promises to Move Thousands of Jobs, Companies, and Visitors in the Coming Years with Regional Impact.

The new international airport in Olímpia, in the interior of São Paulo, is expected to begin construction in 2025, with an estimated investment of R$ 500 million, under the responsibility of the state-owned company Infraero.

The structure already has CNPJ, ZIP code, and registered land deed, formal milestones that consolidate the project and guarantee its progress within the timeline established in the new Growth Acceleration Program (PAC).

The area of two million square meters was acquired with the city hall’s own resources, at a cost of R$ 19 million, and is regularized with Incra.

The project management will be done by Infraero, a federal public company responsible for airports such as Congonhas, Santos Dumont, and Navegantes, which ensures technical standards for operation and safety.

Infrastructure and International Standard

The project provides for a runway with 2,100 meters in length and 45 meters in width, with the possibility of expansion to 2,500 meters, which will allow operations with medium and large aircraft, including freighters.

The aircraft parking area will have the capacity to accommodate up to six airplanes simultaneously, including models such as Boeing 737 and Airbus A320.

Also planned are passenger terminal, cargo terminal, control tower, access roads, and administrative sector, complying with the regulations of the National Civil Aviation Agency (Anac) and the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO).

The initial operating capacity of the airport is 1 million passengers per year, with potential for expansion as the demand grows.

Milestones Achieved So Far

With the completion of the land acquisition, the project underwent land regularization and obtained formal registration, its own ZIP code, and CNPJ linked to Infraero.

Starting this month of June, the airport will enter the environmental licensing phase and publication of the bidding notice for construction, with a forecast for the start of construction in the second semester.

The execution is included in the federal PAC, which allocates resources for structural works in the states.

New Regional Differentials and Job Integration

The airport in Olímpia will play a strategic role in integrating 37 municipalities in the northwest of São Paulo, with a direct impact on an estimated population of 1 million people.

The project is expected to generate 5,000 direct and indirect jobs, mainly during the construction phase, and activate the entire service chain in the area.

The multiplier effect will be significant in the hospitality, transportation, food, commerce, and events sectors, according to projections by the city’s Secretariat of Economic Development.

The location of the airport, near highways such as BR-153 and SP-322, also favors intermodal transport, facilitating access for cargo and passengers from cities such as Barretos, São José do Rio Preto, Bebedouro, and Catanduva.

The proximity to Ribeirão Preto, which already has an airport, is also seen as an advantage for complementing routes and attracting new airlines, creating a regional logistics hub.

Project of the new international airport in Olímpia comes to fruition with a promise of 5,000 jobs and a direct impact on tourism, commerce, and transport in the region.

Tourism, Events, and Attractions

The city of Olímpia received a classification of “A” on the Brazilian Tourism Map in 2024, the highest level on the scale of the Ministry of Tourism, and maintained this status in 2025.

The city attracts around 3 million tourists annually, with a strong appeal for family and leisure tourism.

The main attraction is the Thermas dos Laranjais water park, one of the most visited in Latin America.

Other attractions in the city include the Valley of the Dinosaurs, Hot Beach Water Park, History and Folklore Museum, in addition to the recently inaugurated Orionverso, a complex of thematic experiences about astronomy.

With the new airport, the expectation is that the number of visitors will increase significantly, extending the average stay and encouraging the emergence of new hotels, resorts, and large-scale events.

The municipal administration is also planning to transform Olímpia into a destination for fairs, congresses, and business tourism, with the creation of a convention center near the new terminal.

State Comparison and National Context

The construction of the airport in Olímpia is part of a set of actions to strengthen regional aviation in the state of São Paulo, which also includes the expansion of the terminals in Ribeirão Preto, São José do Rio Preto, and the concession of the Congonhas airport.

According to data from Anac, the number of flights at regional airports grew 18% in the first half of 2025 compared to the same period the previous year, driven by federal programs to incentivize aviation outside major urban centers.

Industry experts believe that the airport in Olímpia could become a balancing point between tourism demand and the logistical outflow needs of the region, which has a strong presence of agribusiness, wholesale trade, and the food industry.

Next Steps

The bidding notice for the project is expected to be published in the coming months.

Once the construction phase is complete, the terminal’s management may be transferred to a Public-Private Partnership (PPP), in order to ensure greater operational efficiency.

Infraero’s goal is for the airport to become financially self-sustaining within five years of commencing operations.

With construction about to begin and growing interest from airlines and investors, it remains to be seen what role the new terminal will play in the future of regional aviation in Brazil.

Will the airport in Olímpia be able to establish itself as a logistical and tourist reference in the interior of São Paulo?
