Imagine A Brazilian State That Not Only Boasts A Growing Economy And A Skilled Workforce, But Also Attracts The Eyes Of Global Industry Giants.
Santa Catarina, with its impressive credentials, may soon become the new home of one of the largest tire manufacturers in the world, the Chinese Sailun Tires.
However, the choice is not certain, as other Brazilian states are also fiercely competing for this opportunity. As negotiations progress, the final decision could change the economic landscape of an entire region.
According to recent information, Santa Catarina is among the four Brazilian states competing to host a massive tire factory from one of the largest companies in the sector worldwide.

Chinese giant worth nearly R$ 4 billion that manufactures cables for electric cars, solar energy, and robotics wants to open a factory in SC.
Last Wednesday (14), Governor Jorginho Mello received representatives from the multinational, along with SCPar President Renato Lacerda and several state secretaries. During the meeting, a presentation letter for Santa Catarina was delivered, which will be forwarded to the company’s headquarters in China.
This letter presents impactful data that positions Santa Catarina as a strong candidate. The figures are robust: an estimated initial investment of around R$ 2 billion and the creation of nearly 2,000 direct jobs.
The State Secretary of Planning, Edgard Usuy, highlighted some of the most attractive indicators, such as the fact that the state is the safest in Brazil, has had economic growth above the national average for six consecutive years, is one of the best tourist destinations in the country, and has a high life expectancy.
Economic and Strategic Attractiveness of Santa Catarina
In addition to these factors, Santa Catarina has a reorganized and efficient port infrastructure, which is crucial for an enterprise of this magnitude.
The state also stands out for having the third-best Human Development Index (HDI) in Brazil and for being second in social sustainability, with over 40% of the Atlantic Forest preserved.
These qualities, combined with legal stability and a focus on technology, make Santa Catarina a natural choice for major industrial investments.
Businessman Beto Cantu, involved in the negotiations, emphasized Santa Catarina’s privileged position, stating: “We positioned Santa Catarina very much in terms of qualified labor, a safe place, a place that has legal stability, a place that really invests in technology”.
He believes that the combination of these factors makes the state an ideal location to host such a significant enterprise.
Details About The Tire Multinational
The company in question, since its founding in 2002, has become a giant in the tire sector, manufacturing and distributing products for passenger cars, light trucks, medium trucks, and off-road vehicles.
With an annual revenue of around R$ 7 billion, the multinational has a strong presence in markets across North America, Europe, Asia, Africa, and South America. Now, Brazil could be the next frontier for this giant’s expansion.
In Brazil, the company’s strategy involves a joint venture with Cantu (Itajaí) and Magnun (Recife), aiming not only at the domestic market but also at export to all of South America.
The first phase of the project includes the construction of a factory with state-of-the-art technology, ensuring high performance in all stages of production, in addition to a strong commitment to training the local workforce.
Other Regions in The Race for Sailun Tires
Despite the attractions of Santa Catarina, other Brazilian states are also competing to host the new factory. Paraíba, Paraná, and Pernambuco are strong contenders, each presenting its own strategic advantages.
However, the presence of large automotive industries, such as BMW in Santa Catarina, could be a decisive differentiator for the multinational’s choice. Executive Secretary of International Articulation and Strategic Projects, Paulinho Bornhausen, emphasized BMW’s importance in the scenario.
“I believe the state has all the capacity to bring this investment because it is part of the automotive chain. They made it clear that the presence of BMW adds an extra attraction for being close, enabling this production”, he said.
He adds that Santa Catarina not only offers a favorable economic environment but also a promising future for those wishing to invest in the region.
Thus, as negotiations progress, Santa Catarina stands out as an attractive option for the establishment of the new Sailun Tires factory, thanks to its infrastructure, skilled workforce, and favorable economic environment. However, the final decision from the Chinese multinational is still pending, and the race continues intensively.
