Keppel Offshore & Marine (Keppel O&M), through its subsidiaries in Singapore and Brazil, secured two contracts worth a combined approximately S$ 73 million ($ 52.4Mn) from MODEC.

Keppel Shipyard was contracted to fabricate, complete, and integrate the topside modules and anchoring support structure for a Floating Production Storage and Offloading (FPSO) unit by Modec for projects in Brazil. As everyone knows, its subsidiary representative is the Brasfels shipyard, located in Angra dos Reis, RJ. This means an additional boost in shipbuilding work in RJ, generating or maintaining jobs in the sector.

Keppel said on Wednesday (15) that the components for the modules and the structure are scheduled to arrive in the 3rd quarter of 2020 for completion, as well as integration and installation with the hull of the FPSO, which is expected at the shipyard in the 4th quarter.

With delivery expected in the 2nd quarter of 2021, the FPSO will be equipped to process 90,000 barrels of oil and 75 million standard cubic feet of gas per day, with a storage capacity of 700,000 barrels of oil.

In Brazil, Keppel O&M’s BrasFELS shipyard received a contract for topside module fabrication for an FPSO for the Búzios field in the Santos Basin, on the coast of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Shipbuilding

Construction on the FPSO, named FPSO Almirante Barroso MV32, is expected to begin in the 3rd quarter of 2020 at the BrasFELS shipyard in Angra dos Reis, with delivery anticipated in the 4th quarter of 2021.

This marks the seventh FPSO-related project undertaken by BrasFELS for MODEC.

When completed, the vessel will be able to process 150,000 barrels of oil and 212 million standard cubic feet of gas per day, with a minimum storage capacity of 1.4 million barrels of oil.

Anthony Quinn, President and Chief Operating Officer of MODEC Offshore Production Systems (Singapore), said: “Although low oil prices amid a global pandemic mark a challenging time for the industry, we are confident that there is ongoing long-term energy demand as the global economy prepares for recovery.”
