The Estaleiro Brasil Sul, located in Itajaí, in the state of Santa Catarina, will be primarily responsible for the construction of the new warships that will be part of the Brazilian Navy fleet. The project was initiated during the year 2020, and next Tuesday (06/21), the first prototype of the vessels will be presented to the Ministry of Defense to continue the construction of the warships by the state-owned Brazilian EMGEPRON.

The latest bet from the Ministry of Defense for the fleet of vessels of the national Navy is the construction of new warships, specifically four next-generation Tamandaré-class ships that will integrate the country’s current fleet.

For this, the Estaleiro Brasil Sul, which is located in Itajaí, will be responsible for the construction work of the vessels, thus ensuring the use of cutting-edge technology for greater safety and efficiency for the ships.

According to the construction project from the Ministry of Defense, the delivery of the new warships is expected to occur between the years 2025 and 2028, with a significant interval if any issues arise in the project.

Additionally, the billion-dollar contract for the construction was signed in 2020, and next Tuesday, the first prototype of the first ship is expected to be presented by EMGEPRON, the independent state-owned company linked to the Ministry of Defense, which will be responsible for the technological development of the warships of the national fleet.

The Estaleiro Brasil Sul intends to utilize technologies from Brazil and Germany, together, for the construction of the warships, and with the completion of the project, aims to reestablish the state of Santa Catarina in the naval industry market.

This is because, although Brazil has a strong international leadership when it comes to the port market and export and import operations, there is still a need for more investments focused on the naval industry in the national territory, mainly in the southeast and south of the country.

The Construction Project of the Warships Will Be Essential to Ensure Local Workforce and New Perspectives for the Naval Industry

The Tamandaré Class Program, as the construction project of the new warships of the Navy fleet is being called, will be essential for the socioeconomic development of the state of Santa Catarina.

This happens because the Estaleiro Brasil Sul will guarantee a series of job opportunities for local residents, aiming to focus on local workforce, in addition to attracting the eyes of the international market to the Brazilian naval industry.

Moreover, through the construction of the warships, the Estaleiro Brasil Sul will be able to connect the local workforce with international technology, thus ensuring even more national qualification regarding the naval industry.

All the warships of the new Navy fleet will have a length of 107.2 meters, a maximum beam of 15.95 meters, a displacement of 3,500 tons, state-of-the-art sensors, as well as exceptional stability and adaptability to ensure greater resistance, safety, and effectiveness in combat at sea.

Finally, the ships will also be able to meet the navigation demands of the Atlantic Ocean and will be equipped with missile and torpedo launchers. Thus, the Ministry of Defense is now investing to restore Brazil’s presence in the international naval industry with the new project.
