Chinese Shipyard Reached a Milestone in the Offshore Industry by Launching a Ship Capable of Generating Offshore Wind Energy
The Cosco shipyard, located in China, achieved a significant milestone by launching the new Wind Peak vessel from Cadeler, specifically designed for the transport and installation of offshore wind turbines. This launch marks a major advancement in the renewable energy industry and the expansion of offshore wind energy capacity worldwide, according to Marinelink.
The Wind Peak vessel launched by the shipyard in China was designed to transport and install up to seven complete sets of 15 MW offshore wind turbines per load. With a deck space of 5,600 m², a payload of over 17,600 tons, and a main crane capacity exceeding 2,500 tons at 53 meters, the Wind Peak in China represents a significant leap in terms of capacity and efficiency in offshore wind turbine installation.
Construction by the Chinese Shipyard and Testing of the Offshore Wind Power Ship
Before the launch of the vessel by the Chinese shipyard, two years of complex engineering and 18 months of construction were required to complete the hull of the vessel. After launch, the jacks and cranes will be installed on board, along with various technical facilities. The commissioning and testing of all systems will be carried out in close collaboration with the classification society, with sea trials planned for mid-2024.
