Until January 23, Candidates Can Register for Free on the Unified Portal Using Scores from Enem 2023, 2024, or 2025 and Track the Results on January 29
Registrations for the Unified Selection System, Sisu 2026, began this Monday, January 19, 2026, and will continue until January 23, with free participation and exclusively online. According to the Ministry of Education, candidates who took one of the last three editions of Enem and meet the requirements of the selection process can compete.
The timeline is short and often generates anxiety because the competition occurs in real-time, with cutoff scores that vary throughout the registration period. According to the MEC, the selection features vacancies primarily from federal universities and institutes, serving as one of the main gateways to public higher education in the country.
The activity is even more intense because the Enem scores were released on January 16, paving the way for many students to quickly assess their chances and adjust their strategies. The general recommendation is to carefully check the course, campus, shift, and competition modality before confirming registration.

The 2026 edition also comes with broader rules regarding the use of scores and changes that the government claims are aimed at increasing transparency and better utilization of available spots. For those who were hoping for “good news” after the Enem, the central point is that the system will now work with more than one result from the candidate when they participated in different editions.
Registrations for Sisu 2026 Start Today and Must Be Made on the Unified Access Portal for Higher Education
The MEC informs that registrations are made only through the Unified Access Portal for Higher Education, with no fee charged. The deadline ends on January 23, so students need to organize themselves to choose options within the official period.
The system allows the selection of courses and institutions, and the ranking considers performance on the Enem according to the rules of this edition. In practice, this affects both those who took only one test and those who have a history of participation in different years and wish to compete for the best chance.
Another important piece of information is that the regular call result is scheduled for January 29, 2026, as announced by the MEC. From there, guidelines for enrollment will be provided, and for those not selected initially, there will be a possibility of a waiting list.
Record Number of Vacancies Expands Competition in Universities and Federal Institutes
In 2026, Sisu reaches the largest edition ever announced, with more than 274,000 vacancies distributed across 7,300 courses and presence in 587 municipalities, according to the Ministry of Education. The list includes 136 public institutions, which expands the regional reach of the program.
Among the institutions with the most opportunities, the MEC highlights UFRJ with 9,120 vacancies, followed by UFF with 8,931, UFPB with 8,005, and UFPE with 7,477. In the course offerings, Pedagogy appears as the course with the most vacancies in the country, ahead of Administration, Mathematics, and Biological Sciences.
Licentiates Gain Momentum with the Pé-de-Meia Licenciaturas Scholarship
One of the focuses of this edition is the set of vacancies in on-site licentiates. The MEC states that there are more than 73,000 vacancies allocated to this type of degree, which reinforces the attempt to attract students to teacher training.
The main novelty associated with this focus is the Pé-de-Meia Licenciaturas, featuring a monthly incentive of R$ 1,050. From this amount, R$ 700 can be withdrawn, and R$ 350 will go into a savings account, with release linked to the beneficiary’s entry as a teacher in the public network within five years after completing the course, according to program rules on the MEC site.
To be eligible for the incentive, the student must meet requirements such as a minimum score of 650 points on the Enem, approval through Sisu, and enrollment in an on-site licentiate, in addition to completing the specific application for the program. The official guidance is to check the criteria before counting on the amount in the financial planning for the degree.
The topic often generates debate because it involves public policy priorities and budget considerations while trying to address a real problem of teacher shortages in certain areas. For some students, the incentive helps make it feasible to remain in the course; for others, there is still a lack of clarity on how to ensure that the measure translates into a teaching career and improvement in basic education.
Scores from Three Editions of Enem Are Considered in the Calculation, and the System Automatically Chooses the Best
Starting with Sisu 2026, the classification can consider scores from Enem 2023, 2024, and 2025, when the candidate participated in those editions. According to the MEC, the system itself automatically selects the score that generates the best weighted average according to the chosen course, also taking into account the competition modalities.
In case of a tie, the rule stated is to use the edition in which the candidate scored the highest in the subject with the highest weight for the course. Additionally, it is necessary to have a score above zero in the essay, and candidates who took the Enem as practice students cannot use the score to compete in Sisu.
This change tends to benefit those who took the Enem more than once and improved their performance, but it may also confuse those who expected to manually select which edition to use. Therefore, tracking the scores and understanding the weights of the chosen course remains an essential part of the strategy to avoid missing an opportunity due to detail.
The Quota Law and Affirmative Actions Remain in Effect and Require Attention in Registration
Sisu maintains the rules of the Quota Law, reserving spots for students who attended high school in public schools, in addition to cuts outlined in law. The MEC also emphasizes that institutions can adopt their own affirmative actions, which expands the competition modalities depending on the university.
During registration, candidates need to fill out a socioeconomic registration and select the modalities for which they are eligible, following the required criteria. Errors at this stage can lead to headaches during enrollment, so it’s worth checking each piece of information before finalizing.
If you are registering, what do you think is fairer, for the system to automatically choose the best score or should the candidate decide which edition to use? Share in the comments whether these changes genuinely help those coming from public schools or if adjustments are still needed to make the competition clearer and more balanced.
