At The Green Cities Seminar, Executive Emphasized The Importance Of Joint Action For Low-Carbon Economy Through Clean Energy

Neoenergia (NEOE3) advocates for the importance of the private sector, together with government and civil society, for decarbonization. The company actively contributes to this process through investments in renewable energy and the modernization of networks, as well as engaging in coalitions that seek to build sustainable solutions, such as the Global Compact, an initiative of the United Nations (UN), and the Brazilian Business Council for Sustainable Development (CEBDS). This strategic positioning was reinforced by Renata KogaManager of Sustainability and Climate Change at the company, at the commemorative event for the ten-year anniversary of the Green Cities seminar, held by the Federation of Industries of the State of Rio de Janeiro (Firjan), this Tuesday (5) in Rio de Janeiro.

The executive participated in the panel “Diversifying City Energy,” which focused on discussing Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) number 7, aimed at ensuring clean and affordable energy, and emphasized that ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) aspects have increasingly become a demand regarding the private sector. “We understand that we must go beyond economic and financial aspects and are increasingly observing non-financial aspects, both for business model issues and financing,” said the executive.

According to Renata Koga, it is necessary, through public and private policies developed in cooperation among various stakeholders, to accelerate investments in clean energy, contribute to changing consumer behavior, invest in innovation, and create the necessary conditions for infrastructure development in cities. “It is essential that all sectors are engaged to build a more sustainable and resilient world,” she stated.

The executive mentioned examples of initiatives developed by the company. “It is already part of Neoenergia’s strategy and business to deal with cleaner, more reliable, and smarter energy. We genuinely care about the communities where we operate, our employees, and the entire ‘S’ aspect of ESG. Furthermore, we are fully committed to renewable energy, actively participating in the discussion on energy transition, and find it very important to also discuss the modernization of networks, as they function as a ‘backbone’ for energy to reach all places and to understand the trends of the future consumer,” she emphasized.

Renata Koga spoke about the Green Corridor, a project in which the company installed the first electric highway in the Northeast, spanning approximately 1,200 kilometers linking Salvador (BA) to Natal (RN), through a Research and Development (R&D) project regulated by the National Electric Energy Agency (Aneel). The executive also mentioned the Future Energy Project, which brought smart grid equipment to transform the Atibaia (SP) region into a national reference for DSO (Distribution System Operator), a trend in the global electric sector where companies become operators of a complex distribution system that includes distributed generation and sustainable mobility.
