On Monday (20), the Brazilian Army, through the Department of Engineering and Construction, together with the Army Corps of Engineers, announced that it is purchasing equipment for Logistic Support Bridges (LSB). The Brazilian Army signs an agreement with the USA and the purchase will be made through the EB Commission in Washington, in the United States.

According to technical specifications, the purchase by the Brazilian Army includes two sets of 60.96-meter metal bridges, conversion kits for the TSHR3H++ bridge, as well as components for the construction of a 50-foot (15.24 meters) DSH type bridge and a 150-foot (45.72 meters) DSHR2H++ type bridge.
The conversion kit will allow for the modular assembly of the structures, enabling different configurations of metal bridges from the acquired equipment. The Brazilian Army signs an agreement with the USA and each set will also include hand tools for assembly and transportation, as well as adjustable ramps and launch kits.

Brazilian Army Plans Construction Of Bridge In Minas Gerais
In addition to these metal bridges where the Brazilian Army signed an agreement with the USA, the city of Dom Silvério, in the Zona da Mata region of Minas Gerais, received a visit from two lieutenants of the 4th Military Region of the Brazilian Army on the morning of Friday (1/10) to evaluate the construction of a temporary bridge over the creek that runs through the city. There is still no forecast for when the installation of the metal structure will take place.
On January 7, the city suffered from heavy rains in just 20 minutes, with about 150 mm of rain, equivalent to almost 70% of the expected volume for the month of January. As a result, there was structural damage to houses and the collapse of two bridges, leaving neighborhoods isolated while the waters flooded the streets, taking about three hours for the levels to return to normal.
Other Metal Bridges Under Development In Other States
One of the bridges that were destroyed connected the Campestre neighborhood to the city center. A wooden bridge has been installed to ensure the circulation of the population. The inspection by army officials aims to replace this with a metal bridge.
According to Mayor José Bráulio Aleixo, at least nine bridges were lost, both concrete and wooden. Two of them are in the urban area, and they are still assessing whether a third one is condemned.
It is worth mentioning that the construction of three more metal bridges is underway in the Vale do Taquari. In total, the agreement between private companies, the State Government, and municipalities includes 10 structures. The first four are expected to be delivered by March.
Three more had construction started at the end of last year, in Coqueiro Baixo, Travesseiro, and Relvado. The president of the Industry and Commerce Chamber of Vale do Taquari (CIC–VT), Ângelo Fontana, reported that he conducted an inspection this week to monitor the progress of the works.
