Petrobras Announced Investments of US$ 5.2 Billion in the Implementation of New Projects for Gas Exploration During the Brazilian Gas Seminar for the Reindustrialization of Brazil at the Headquarters of the Federation of Industries of the State of São Paulo (Fiesp).
According to the company’s president, Jean Paul Prates, the Strategic Plan 2023-27 outlines the development of new fields and infrastructures, including projects in partnership with Sergipe Águas Profundas (SEAP), with a capacity of 18 million m³/day, and BM-C-33, in the Campos Basin, with a capacity of 16 million m³/day.
In addition to the Integrated Project Rota 3, scheduled for 2024 and with a capacity of up to 21 million m³/day. According to Petrobras, these new infrastructures will add a capacity of up to 55 million m³/day to the national gas supply.
Gas Re Injection in Reservoirs and Decarbonization
One of the necessary processes to increase oil production is the re injection of gas in reservoirs, which is part of the decarbonization process. The largest operation of this kind in the world is carried out by Petrobras, since the pre-salt gas contains a large amount of CO2 that needs to be re injected back into the production fields along with part of the natural gas.

Brazilian giant expands borders in the Southeast: Petrobras confirms new oil discovery in ultra-deep waters in the pre-salt of the Campos Basin.
-
Alert in the global energy market: Severe tropical cyclone hits the coast and disrupts gas production at major plants in Australia, threatening global supply.
-
Petrobras finds high-quality oil in the pre-salt at 113 km from RJ and reignites expectations about strategic reserves in the Campos Basin.

Ocyan opens registrations for startups focused on innovation in the oil and gas sector and will select projects for Innovation Day with the support of Nexio.
This process, included in the company’s sustainability plan, provides higher oil production. The president of Petrobras, Jean Paul Prates, emphasized the importance of maintaining an efficient operation with maximum decarbonization in oil and gas production. In addition, he highlighted that CO2 capture plays a crucial role in reducing emissions and in the decarbonization of processes.
Competitive Environment for Oil and Gas Exploration
According to Tiago da Rosa Homem, executive manager of Reservoirs at Petrobras, it is essential to create an increasingly competitive environment for oil and natural gas exploration, which can encourage the development of new reserves and increase the supply of gas in the country starting in 2025, when the Integrated Project Rota 3 is expected to be operational.
Exploring oil and gas is a constant challenge, as finding economically viable oil is not easy. Therefore, it is crucial to use innovative resources and techniques to extract the most and optimize the country’s energy resources.
Suggestion to Create a Working Group to Improve Natural Gas Supply
During the seminar, Vice President Geraldo Alckmin highlighted the importance of natural gas for various Brazilian industrial sectors, from the chemical industry to ceramics and commerce, and suggested the creation of a working group involving the Federal Government and the national business sector to seek ways to improve the supply of natural gas in the country. The suggestion to create the group came from Fiesp president Josué Gomes.
The group would be formed by the ministries of Mines and Energy, Civil House, Industry and Commerce, Finance, Fiesp, Petrobras, and independent producers, according to Alckmin. The pursuit of solutions and improvements in the supply of natural gas is crucial for the maintenance and growth of national industry.
Natural gas exploration is a constant and significant challenge for Brazil. Petrobras, in turn, announced significant investments in new projects to increase the gas supply capacity in the country. It is important to emphasize the need to maintain a sustainability and decarbonization plan in oil and gas production.
Furthermore, encouraging a more competitive environment for exploration can bring significant benefits to the country. The suggestion to create a working group to improve the supply of natural gas highlights the importance of dialogue between the business sector and the Federal Government in the search for solutions and improvements in the supply of essential inputs for various industrial sectors.
