UFJF Opens Enrollment for 379 Slots in Distance Learning Undergraduate Courses in Various Areas, with Opportunities for Students and Public School Teachers; Learn How to Enroll.
The Federal University of Juiz de Fora (UFJF) has just opened enrollment for the selection process of distance learning undergraduate courses. In total, there are 379 free slots for teaching degrees, distributed across six different areas. The courses, offered in partnership with the Open University of Brazil (UAB), are available at support centers in various cities in Minas Gerais, allowing students from different regions to access higher education with flexibility.
These slots represent a great opportunity for those looking to start an undergraduate program, especially for those who prefer the distance learning modality. In this way, there is a percentage of slots specifically reserved for public school teachers who do not yet have a higher education degree or who do not have a diploma in the area in which they work.
Structure of the Selection Process and Benefits of the Distance Learning Modality
The selection process at UFJF has been structured to include two groups of candidates. The first group is open to the general public, competing based on the average grades of Portuguese and Mathematics from high school, along with the submission of the academic transcript. This modality represents 80% of the total slots. The second group, equivalent to the remaining 20%, is aimed at teachers currently working in public schools who do not yet have a higher education degree or need specific training to work in their teaching area. These teachers must prove their affiliation with the education network and be registered on the Freire Platform.

The distance learning modality is a strategic choice by UFJF to reach a larger audience and promote inclusion in higher education. The courses feature online classes that students can attend from home, along with mandatory in-person activities at support centers located in cities across Minas Gerais. This setup makes education more accessible for students from different locations.
Courses and Available Support Centers
The free undergraduate courses offered by UFJF are all focused on teaching degrees, and the slots are divided among the following courses and support centers:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Computing
- Bachelor’s Degree in Mathematics
- Bachelor’s Degree in Chemistry
- Bachelor’s Degree in Physics
- Bachelor’s Degree in Physical Education
- Bachelor’s Degree in Pedagogy
The in-person support centers, where mandatory activities will take place, are located in the following cities:
Andrelândia, Barão de Cocais, Barroso, Bicas, Boa Esperança, Cambuí, Carandaí, Carangola, Conselheiro Lafaiete, Durandé, Ilicínea, Ipanema, Itamonte, Lagoa Santa, Lavras, Sete Lagoas, and Varginha.
This structure with centers distributed across various regions facilitates access for students from diverse locations, who do not need to travel to the main UFJF campus to attend the course.
How the Selection Process Works
To enroll in the selection process, candidates need to choose the support center where they will carry out the in-person activities and select one of the admission modalities. The process is quite inclusive, and candidates from the group designated for public school teachers have priority in case of a tie based on length of service. If the tie persists, age will be the tiebreaking criterion.
The enrollment fee of R$150 is required for all candidates, except for those who request and have the exemption approved. To request the exemption, it is necessary to submit the request at the time of registration, between October 14 and 18. The result of the exemption will be announced on October 25 on the website of the General Coordination of Selection Processes (Copese), and those who have their request denied will need to pay the fee to confirm their participation in the process.
Where to Enroll
The enrollment for the selection process of UFJF’s distance learning undergraduate courses must be done exclusively online, AT THIS LINK. The candidate needs to fill out the form with the requested information, generate the Union Payment Guide (GRU), and make the payment of the enrollment fee at Banco do Brasil by November 7, 2024.
