UEMA offers 20 spots, divided into different categories. Twelve of these spots are for general competition, but there are also special opportunities:

two for faculty and technical-administrative staff of the university, two for People with Disabilities (PCD), in addition to four spots reserved for the Affirmative Action Policy.

This master’s program is mainly aimed at graduates in Literature or related fields who are interested in exploring topics related to Literary Theory.

The applications, which were initially set to close earlier, have been extended until the end of September, allowing more candidates to apply and compete for these spots that could be your gateway to a new academic level.

Master’s Program Has Two Research Lines Focused on Literature

This graduate program offers two research lines that address literature in different contexts. Let’s explain further:

Literature and Subjectivity

This research line is ideal for those who wish to explore literature as a tool for analyzing and interpreting subjectivities. Research areas include themes such as:

Literature and History,
Literature and Psychoanalysis,
Literature and Sociology,
Literature and Other Arts and Media.

Additionally, the focus also involves narrativity and new narrative combinations, encompassing both poetry and dramatic forms and their interpretations in the contemporary scenario.

Literature, Memory, and Culture

The second research line proposes to investigate literature as a historical phenomenon, exploring its implications in dialogues about identity, culture, and memory. Here, projects may discuss:

Literature and Social Formation,
Literature and Cultural Memory,
Children’s Literature and Orality,
The Intersection between Historical and Literary Texts.

This line is aimed at those who want to understand how literature engages with society over time, creating new interpretations about our cultural heritage and our identity.

Classes Start in March 2025

Activities will take place from Monday to Saturday, in the morning and afternoon shifts, at UEMA’s campus in São Luís, in the building of the Language Course.
