MEC Launches Professional Master’s in Arts (PROFARTES), A Free Program for Basic Education Arts Teachers.
A new initiative that promises to transform the training of arts teachers in Brazil is set for next year: a free master’s degree recognized by the Ministry of Education (MEC) exclusively for basic education teachers.
In an effort to qualify educators and enrich the teaching of arts, the MEC offers a unique opportunity for current public school teachers who want to elevate their pedagogical practice and obtain a recognized master’s degree in arts.
The program, called Professional Master’s in Arts (PROFARTES), will be conducted with the support of various universities across Brazil and is aimed at professionals with experience in teaching arts, interested in expanding their skills, experiences, and pedagogical competencies.

The training combines theoretical and practical studies, focusing on artistic languages, and is ideal for educators committed to a richer and more dynamic education in public schools.
Program Structure and Objectives
PROFARTES is a 24-month course, with a total workload of 420 hours, of which 360 are in-person and 60 are conducted remotely.
This format allows teachers to develop a deep understanding of various artistic languages and enhance their practice in the classroom.
According to MEC, the course was structured to meet the needs of educators who seek to integrate practice and theory, aiming to make the teaching of arts a more immersive and impactful process in the students’ lives.
One of the main objectives of the program is to train arts teachers with a critical and practical view of education, emphasizing the importance of each artistic language in the integral development of students.
Teachers of arts currently working in basic education with a degree recognized by MEC may apply, with proof of their practice in the field being a mandatory requirement for enrollment.
Institutions and Distribution of Spots
For the first semester of 2025, the program offers 296 spots in participating higher education institutions (IES) in PROFARTES.
This distribution model is part of an effort by MEC to facilitate access for teachers from different regions of the country.
The participating institutions, which include state and federal universities, adopt their own quota policies, increasing access for underrepresented groups.
Among the universities that will offer spots for PROFARTES are:
- State University of Santa Catarina (UDESC): 12 spots
- São Paulo State University (UNESP): 22 spots
- Federal University of Bahia (UFBA): 20 spots
- University of Brasília (UNB): 32 spots
- Federal University of Ceará (UFC): 14 spots
- Federal University of Mato Grosso do Sul (UFMS): 19 spots
- Federal University of Minas Gerais (UFMG): 20 spots
These and other institutions, including universities in the North and Northeast regions, such as Federal University of Amazonas (UFAM) and Regional University of Cariri (URCA), complete the national offer of the program, expanding access for teachers from different contexts and educational realities.
MEC Selection Process
The PROFARTES selection process consists of two phases. The first stage includes the analysis of the Descriptive Memorial and the Research Project, both required from candidates as prerequisites for registration.
In this phase, the presented projects are evaluated by a committee that assesses the relevance and coherence of the proposed content with the profile of the course.
The second phase consists of the Defense Exam, in which candidates orally defend their research project, demonstrating clarity about the content and alignment with the objectives of PROFARTES.
According to MEC, this selection structure aims to ensure that future master’s students have a profile aligned with the focus of the course, valuing the commitment to artistic education and the skills that candidates will bring to the classroom.
Applications and Deadlines
Those interested in participating in this training must register between October 21 and 30, 2024.
Applications are made directly on the virtual platforms of the educational institutions associated with PROFARTES.

Bom dia! Sou da Rede Privada e gostaria d2 me inscrever, posso??
