If Your Dream Is to Study Engineering, Administration, or More Without Paying Tuition, IFES Opened Registration with 779 Free Spots. Find Out How to Secure Yours!
Getting into a degree recognized by MEC without spending a dime on tuition is no longer a distant dream. The Federal Institute of Espírito Santo (Ifes) launched the Edital PSU 69/2025, offering 779 free spots in on-site courses distributed across 18 campuses in the state. The options range from engineering, veterinary medicine, administration, and logistics to teaching degrees and technological courses in strategic areas for the job market.
Opportunity to Study Without Tuition
The major difference of this edital is the admission process: candidates will be evaluated through a written exam in Portuguese, scheduled for November 30, 2025. Those who pass will begin their studies in the first semester of 2026.

According to the rector Jadir José Pela, the institute’s commitment goes beyond just opening spots:
“Our commitment is to provide not only access but real conditions for students to complete their degrees with academic quality and preparation for the job market,” he stated in an interview with the official portal of Ifes.
Course Structure and How They Work
The courses are in-person, but each one may include up to 30% of the workload in distance activities, according to the pedagogical project. This means that students will have access to theoretical classes, laboratory practices, forums, seminars, and in-person evaluations.
The programs cover different fields:
- Engineering: Mechanical, Electrical, Civil, Environmental, Mining, Control and Automation, Fishing, and Agronomy.
- Biological Sciences and Related Fields: Veterinary Medicine, Animal Science, and Biological Sciences.
- Exact Sciences and Earth Sciences: Mathematics, Chemistry (Industrial and Teaching), Geography, and Geology.
- Human and Social Sciences: Administration, Pedagogy, and Architecture and Urbanism.
- Technological: Systems Analysis and Development, Internet Systems, Environmental Management, Logistics, and Coffee Production.
This diversity of options strengthens the institute’s role as a center for training professionals in sectors considered strategic for the economic and social development of Espírito Santo.
Who Can Participate
To register, candidates must have completed high school in any modality. Foreigners can also apply, as long as they present the National Migratory Registration Card (CRNM).
Another highlight of the edital is the policy of affirmative actions: half of the spots are reserved for quota students, including those from public schools, Black, Brown, Indigenous, Quilombola individuals, and persons with disabilities, in accordance with federal legislation.
Cities and Distribution of Spots
The 779 spots are spread across strategic cities such as Alegre, Aracruz, Cachoeiro de Itapemirim, Linhares, Nova Venécia, Viana, Santa Teresa, and São Mateus, among others. This expands the reach of free higher education and brings opportunities to different regions of Espírito Santo.
Selection Process and Evaluation Criteria
Admission will be determined by the written exam, which will be evaluated on five points:
- Command of standard language;
- Relevance to the proposed theme;
- Consistent argumentation;
- Textual cohesion;
- Intervention proposal within human rights.
Additionally, quota candidates will go through document analysis and in-person interviews to validate their self-declaration. For the spots designated for persons with disabilities, medical reports will also be required.
