Minister Renan Filho Makes Impactful Statement: “Without Roads, There Is No Development!” With an Investment of R$260 Million, Lula’s Government Begins Paving the BR-135/MG, Promising Transformation for 1.8 Million People.

The development of a region is directly linked to the quality of its road infrastructure.

In the North of Minas Gerais, the paving of the BR-135, in the stretch between Manga and Itacarambi, promises to transform the local reality.

With an investment of R$ 260.2 million, the project aims to eliminate the challenges faced daily by residents due to the poor conditions of the highway.

The signing of the service order for the start of the works took place this Wednesday (12), with the presence of the Minister of Transport, Renan Filho.

According to him, “the road represents much more than a means of transportation, it is an essential factor for development, health, and quality of life for the population.”

Paving Will Benefit 1.8 Million People

The lack of asphalt in the stretch of BR-135 directly impacts the economy and daily life of the population.

The dust and mud hinder access to essential services, compromise the transportation of goods, and raise the costs of basic products.

With the completion of the project, approximately 1.8 million people will benefit.

The project will also facilitate the flow of local production, primarily consisting of cotton, grains, and meat.

In addition, the paving strengthens the integration between the states of Minas Gerais, Bahia, Piauí, and Maranhão, contributing to the strengthening of the regional economy.

According to Fabrício Galvão, director-general of the National Department of Transport Infrastructure (DNIT), the forecast is that work will begin in the next 20 days.

Some projects are complex, and this is one of them. But, thanks to the joint effort, we have managed to progress and initiate this important intervention”, he highlighted.

Impact on Health and Safety

The improvement of road infrastructure also has a direct impact on the health of the population.

Federal Deputy Célia Xakriabá, a native of São João das Missões, one of the benefit municipalities, emphasized that the lack of adequate roads has been a historical obstacle to accessing basic services.

How many lives have been lost because medical assistance took too long to arrive?
Additionally, the costs of essential products are increased due to transportation difficulties.
This project is fundamental for social justice and to guarantee basic rights for the population,” emphasized the parliamentarian.

Historic Investment in Infrastructure

Investments in highways in Minas Gerais have been significantly increasing in recent years.
In 2024, the Federal Government allocated R$ 731 million to public works in the state.

For comparison, in 2022, in the last year of the previous administration, this amount was only R$ 273 million.

This increase in financial support has resulted in tangible improvements.

The percentage of highways classified as bad or terrible fell from 32% in 2022 to 12% in 2024, while the number of roads rated as good increased from 42% to 61% in the same period.

Minister Renan Filho highlighted that the forecast is to close 2025 with the best quality indices ever recorded in the state’s road network.

We are consolidating a new standard of infrastructure for Minas Gerais and for Brazil, ensuring more security, development, and opportunities for the population”, he concluded.

With the arrival of asphalt, residents of the North of Minas will finally be able to count on dignified, safe, and efficient access.

This will promote advances not only in mobility but also in economic growth and the quality of life for thousands of Brazilians.
