FGTS At Risk: Ministry of Labor Confirms That Over 80,000 Employers Have Been Notified for Failing to Collect the Domestic Workers Fund; See How to Check If Deposits Are Being Made Correctly
The FGTS is a constitutional right of all formally employed workers, including domestic, rural, and temporary workers. It guarantees the formation of a financial reserve in cases such as unjustified dismissal, home purchase, or severe illness. However, the Ministry of Labor and Employment (MTE) revealed that over 80,000 employers have failed to collect the fund for their domestic workers, which jeopardizes the financial security of thousands of families.
The official notification is being made by the Electronic Labor Home (DET), a platform that centralizes government communication with employers. The goal is to regularize overdue deposits, but the situation raises an alarm: many workers may be losing funds without realizing it.
How to Know If the FGTS Is Being Paid Correctly
One of the biggest concerns is that workers do not always monitor whether FGTS deposits are actually being made to their linked accounts.

Lack of attention can lead to irreversible losses, as the fund can only be used in specific situations.
To protect oneself, it is essential to regularly check the balance. This can be done through the FGTS app, available for Android and iOS, where it is possible to generate PDF statements and check all active and inactive contracts.
Clients of Caixa Econômica Federal can also check through Internet Banking, accessing the “FGTS Statement” option.
There is the possibility of receiving free SMS alerts, which inform monthly of the deposits made and provide updated balance information every six months.
Why the Issue Especially Affects Domestic Workers
Although all formal employees are entitled to FGTS, the MTE highlighted that the issue is more prevalent in the domestic sector.
This is partly due to the continued informality present in this segment and the lack of closer monitoring by workers.
The risk is twofold: loss of benefits and future difficulties in case of dismissal or emergency needs.
Another critical point is that many employers are unaware of the penalties. The absence of contributions can lead to fines, liabilities, and even labor lawsuits.
For workers, the only way to guarantee their rights is to monitor their statements and, if necessary, seek the Regional Labor Delegation (DRT) to report irregularities.
What to Do If the Deposit Is Not Being Made
If the balance does not match the amounts owed, the worker must act quickly.
The first step is to talk to the employer and request regularization. If there is no solution, it is possible to formally report to the Ministry of Labor, which has enforcement power and can impose sanctions.
It is important to remember that the FGTS deposit corresponds to 8% of the monthly salary and must be made by the employer.
Any failure in this process directly harms the financial security of the employee.
The incident shows that attention to the FGTS needs to be constant. The government has identified thousands of cases, but each worker has the duty to monitor their account to avoid surprises.
After all, it is a wealth built month by month, which can make a difference in decisive life situations.
