The Fiat Uno is one of the most iconic cars of the brand in Brazil, known for its durability, low maintenance cost, and wide availability of parts. Launched in 1984 in the country, it became one of the most popular models among consumers looking for a compact, economical, and reliable vehicle. In this article, we explore in detail the Fiat Uno Way 1.4, one of the versions that marked the history of the hatch with its adventurous design and balanced performance.

In the Way version, which is more adventurous, the Fiat car has an SUV-like feel, with a higher suspension and plastic protectors on the body. The second generation of the popular Fiat car was launched in 2010 and, despite being another car, built on a new platform, it still maintained the layout of the square lines of the traditional Uno, albeit more softened. Among its rivals, the hatch even competed with the Volkswagen Cross Up, launched in 2014.

Like other versions, the Fiat Uno Way was also available with two or four doors and Fire Evo 1.0 engines, delivering 75 hp with ethanol and 73 hp with gasoline, and 1.4, which offered 88 hp to 85 hp, respectively. It is possible to find, in the current market, the Fiat hatch for less than R$ 30 thousand.

In design, the Fiat Uno Way 1.4 stands out for its longitudinal roof bars, headlights with black masks, elevated suspension, wheel arch trims, and other highlights that give it an adventurous look.

The 1.4 version of the Fiat car also came with all-terrain tires. In the list of features, power steering, ABS brakes, air conditioning, and two airbags (driver and passenger) were some of the options.

Measuring 3.77 meters in length, 1.63 m in width, and 1.48 m in height, the Fiat Uno Way 1.4 Evo received increases of 8 cm in length, 9 cm in width, and 2 cm in height. On the other hand, the trunk became smaller, now with 280 liters compared to 290 l of the previous hatch; however, it compensated for the more vertical adjustment of the rear seatback, recovering what was lost in the trunk space.

Look for versions of the Fiat Uno 1.4 with four doors and more features, as these not only retain value better during resale for obvious reasons. However, avoid versions with an automated transmission. This transmission has fallen out of favor due to frequent problems and high maintenance costs.

Main Defects Found In The Used Fiat Car

Despite offering several advantages in the used car market, the Fiat hatch has critical points. The bumpers and trims tend to fade due to constant exposure to the sun and chemicals with high alkalinity. Depending on their condition, simply applying silicone may solve the issue.

Being quite imprecise, the Fiat car’s transmission shows difficulty in shifting, makes noises, and even has breakage issues in the manual version. For the automated Dualogic versions, the situation is even more delicate. Besides the imprecision, due to having more technology employed, the repair cost is higher and issues are more frequent.

The battery has a short lifespan, and many owners ended up replacing it more than once within a year of use. The tip is to consult an automotive electrician about the possibility of replacing it with a higher amperage battery. It is also important to stay alert to recalls regarding ECU updates, gear shifts, fuel pump replacements, and alternator changes.
