New Investment in Renewable Energy, the Joint Venture Formed by CPP Investments and Votorantim Energy is Developing a Pilot Project for the First Hybrid Plant that Will Use Wind and Solar Energy
A pilot project for a hybrid plant by the joint venture formed by CPP Investments and Votorantim Energy will go into operation in the first quarter of 2023. This will be the first renewable energy plant that combines solar and wind energy to generate power, aiming to provide more autonomy to Brazil’s electrical system.

The renewable energy project has already been approved by the ANEEL and will operate under the associated park model. The new solar and wind energy plant will have an initial capacity to generate 68.7 MW and will be installed on land next to the existing wind power park “Ventos do Piauí I,” with a shared transmission substation.
The energy from the wind and solar plant will supplement the energy from the wind park, which has stronger generation at night due to a specific characteristic of the region’s winds.

The Creation of the New Wind and Solar Energy Plant Promises to Revolutionize the Renewable Market
According to the president of Votorantim Energy, Fabio Zanfelice, the project is a result of Votorantim’s initiative to propose a regulatory and technical innovation with the potential to change the energy sector in Brazil. Investments and studies related to hybrid plant projects have been conducted since 2017. The studies aim to assess whether it is feasible to combine wind and solar energy.
According to Fabio, the combination of renewable energy sources that operate at different production times enables an optimized system. ANEEL’s decision represents a significant step towards modernizing the sector, which will reduce operating costs and optimize the energy transport system, making new renewable energy plants in the country competitive.
Brazilian Hybrid Plant Will Receive R$ 189.98 Million in Investments
The project will receive an investment of R$ 189.98 million, with financing approved by BNDES. Carla Primavera, superintendent of the Energy Department at BNDES, says: “It is very satisfying to see another successful outcome in the modernization agenda of the electric energy sector.”
The production of solar and wind energy is part of Votorantim’s strategy to expand electricity generation through renewable energy. In addition to the wind complex in Piauí, the company also operates “Ventos do Araripe III,” located on the border of the states of Piauí and Pernambuco. The company is investing R$ 2 billion in two new complexes in the region, with a forecast also for 2023.
