Is It Real Gas Or Just Another Fuel Scam? If You Are One of Those Who Have Ever Doubted Whether You Really Put the Right Fuel in the Car, Know That the National Agency of Oil, Natural Gas and Biofuels (ANP) Is Watching the Stations. In a Recent Operation in Vila Velha, in the State of Espírito Santo, a Station Was Caught Selling Regular Gasoline Disguised as Additized, an Illegal Practice That Harms Both Pockets and Vehicle Performance. This Is Just One of the Cases That Reinforce the Importance of Strict Regulation to Protect Consumers and Ensure a Transparent Market.

The Supervision of Gas Stations Is a Priority for ANP, Which, in Partnership with the Police and Regulatory Agencies, Conducts Strict Inspections to Ensure That the Gasoline Sold Meets Quality and Quantity Standards. The Agency Identifies Irregularities with Detailed Inspections That Go Far Beyond Quality, Also Checking Whether the Amount of Fuel Provided Corresponds to What Was Paid.

With the Recent Episode in Vila Velha, the Alert Has Been Raised. And It’s No Wonder: Frauds Like This Represent What Has Been Called the “Fuel Scam,” an Illegal Practice That Harms Consumers and Puts the Functioning of Vehicles at Risk. To Prevent These Irregularities, ANP Uses Severe Measures, Such as Sealing Fuel Pumps and Legal Sanctions Against Violating Stations. These Actions Are Part of a Broader Strategy to Create a Safe and Reliable Market Environment for Everyone.

How ANP Supervision of Gas Stations Protects Consumers

Periodic Inspections Not Only Prevent Frauds but Also Ensure the Quality of Gasoline Available to Consumers. In Order to Avoid Damage to Vehicle Engines and Safety Risks for Drivers, ANP Maintains Continuous Monitoring. Each Violation Found Is a Step Further to Correcting the Market, and the Agency Imposes Sanctions Ranging from Temporary Suspension of Operations to Strict Legal Proceedings, Promoting a Deterrent Effect Against Deceptive Practices.

Furthermore, by Identifying and Punishing Frauds, ANP Strengthens Consumer Confidence, Ensuring That the Gasoline Supplied to Their Vehicles Is Correct. This Significantly Reduces the Risks of Mechanical Failures and Additional Repair Costs, Direct Impacts of Purchasing Adulterated Fuel.

How Consumers Can Protect Themselves Against the Fuel Scam

Although ANP Plays an Essential Role, Consumer Attention Is Equally Important to Avoid the Fuel Scam. Here Are Some Recommended Practices:

Check the Fuel Pump: Before Starting to Fuel Up, Make Sure That the Information Displayed on the Pump Is Clear and Matches the Type of Gasoline You Requested.

Keep Receipts: Retain All Payment and Refueling Receipts. They Can Serve as Evidence in Case of Disputes or Suspicions of Fraud.

Report Suspicions to ANP: Any Practice or Action That Raises Doubts Should Be Reported to ANP, Which Keeps Open Channels for Consumer Complaints.

This Shared Vigilance Among Consumers, ANP, and Other Agencies Is Key to a More Integral and Transparent Fuel Market. As the Agency Expands Its Efforts, and Active Citizen Participation Increases, It Is Hoped That Cases of Adulteration Will Decrease and Strengthen Trust in Gas Stations. After All, When It Comes to Gasoline, What Every Consumer Expects Is Quality and Safety, and the Joint Effort of Everyone Is Essential to Make This a Reality.
