Red Bull Clarifies Commitment to Build Its Own Engine Starting in 2026; Current Partnership with Honda Will End in 2025.

The American car manufacturer Ford may be one step away from finalizing a partnership with Red Bull and celebrating its return to Formula 1 in 2026. The opportunity arose after the failure of negotiations between the Austrian team and Porsche.

The negotiations between Red Bull and Porsche regarding a partnership for 2026 fell through at the last minute due to fears that the Austrian team could lose its independence, paving the way for Ford, which would not be interested in a formal purchase of the operation and would be happy to let Red Bull handle the technical development of the power unit, offering assistance in any necessary area.

Besides Ferrari, Red Bull is the Only Other Team in the Segment to Build Engine and Chassis

Red Bull makes it clear that it is committed to building its own engine starting in 2026 and, since its current partnership with Honda will end in 2025, the company shows openness to collaborations with other manufacturers.

“We are fully focused on having a Red Bull engine, and if we have a partner with an open mind who can contribute to the project, then we will consider it, but it is not a prerequisite,” said Christian Horner this year.

We will be the only other team besides Ferrari to have both engine and chassis built on the same campus, in the same location. We believe that, for the long-term competitiveness of the team, this is the right thing to do.”

Ford Last Officially Involved in F1 Through Jaguar in 2004

Ford had shown little interest in returning to F1 since then, but the growth of the sport, especially in the U.S., changed the situation.

It is worth remembering that Ford was last officially involved in F1 through Jaguar, from 2000 to 2004, in addition to sponsoring the Jordan’s Cosworth engines in 2003 and 2004.
