Surprised in the home stretch of the year, employees of the Chicken Slaughterhouse in Roselândia, district of Bela Vista de Goiás, were fired via video call, left without salary, without 13th salary, without FGTS and are still awaiting responses from the company management about delayed payments, rescissions, unemployment insurance and other labor rights owed.

On the 16th, in the last month of the year, the 60 employees of Kero Frango Alimentos, a chicken slaughterhouse in Roselândia, district of Bela Vista de Goiás, were informed in a video conference that the unit would immediately cease operations and that all would be fired. The news came when they had not yet received their November salary or the first installment of the 13th salary.

During the virtual meeting, the workers were told that the company would not have cash resources to settle the outstanding amounts. Without salary, without 13th salary, and without any guarantee of receiving labor rights, they left the meeting online with no set deadlines for the payment of severance payments, the regularization of FGTS or access to unemployment insurance.

Mass Dismissal Announced in Video Conference

According to reports from the employees, the communication regarding the closure of the chicken slaughterhouse was made directly, in a virtual meeting conducted by an unknown man from the team.

It was in this meeting that the representative informed about the termination of activities at Kero Frango Alimentos in Roselândia and the dismissal of the 60 workers all at once.

Until then, many believed that the temporary halt in slaughter, which had already lasted at least 15 days, would just be a pause in production.

The mass dismissal via video conference caught the team by surprise, especially because there was an expectation of job preservation and regularization of outstanding payments.

Salary, 13th Salary, and FGTS Remain Outstanding

Reports indicate that, in addition to the closure announcement, there was no guarantee regarding the payment of the November salary or the first installment of the 13th salary that were still outstanding.

The representative informed in the video conference that the company does not have available resources to settle the labor debts and also did not present any forecast for the regularization of payments.

According to the workers, the chicken slaughterhouse also ceased making deposits for the Severance Indemnity Fund (FGTS) owed to the category.

The uncertainty is twofold: they do not know when they will receive the overdue amounts and also when they will have access to the terminations and the necessary documents to apply for unemployment insurance.

Guidance to Wait and Silence from Management

Still during the meeting, some employees recount that the group was asked to wait for a message from the management of the chicken slaughterhouse with new guidance.

So far, however, there is no confirmation that this communication has been sent, nor if the termination terms or the forms required to release labor benefits to the dismissed employees have been forwarded.

In the meantime, the situation remains undefined. Without clear deadlines, documents, and without an official response from the company, the workers continue to not know when and how they will receive what is due to them after the closure of the unit in Bela Vista de Goiás.

Workers Turn to the Union and the Ministry of Labor

In light of the scenario of financial insecurity and lack of guarantees, the employees state that they have already contacted the union of the category and the Ministry of Labor in search of support.

The expectation is that the authorities act to guarantee the payment of salaries, the 13th salary, FGTS, and other rights provided for by law for mass terminations like the one that occurred at Kero Frango Alimentos.

The workers express concern not only about the overdue amounts but also about the immediate future, since the dismissal was announced in the home stretch of the year.

The shutdown of the Chicken Slaughterhouse in Roselândia affects dozens of families who depended on the income from the slaughterhouse, while they await an institutional solution to the impasse.

Company Does Not Respond to Questions

The news outlet that investigated the case reported that it sought the management of Kero Frango Alimentos on the 18th, via the only phone number provided by the company, a cell phone number.

A message was sent, but so far there has been no return with the official version regarding the closure of the unit, the dismissal of the 60 employees, and the non-payment of salaries and benefits.

Without a position from the company, the reasons for the closure of operations, the plan to settle labor debts, and the timeline to regularize the situation of the former employees remain unclear.

While Kero Frango Alimentos does not respond, the workers continue to depend on the support of the union and authorities to try to receive what the law guarantees.

In your opinion, what should the workers of this chicken factory do in light of this situation?
