The mansion where the Riachuelo Studio will operate, an initiative of the Curitiba Cultural Foundation, is in the final phase of restoration and is already changing commerce, tourism, and the image of the region.
The century-old mansion on Riachuelo Street, in the heart of Curitiba, is leaving behind decades of abandonment to transform into a hub of digital culture. Even before the inauguration scheduled for March, the Riachuelo Studio already appears as a landmark in urban requalification and as a showcase of a new phase for the Center.
Built in 1920, the mansion has been marked by ruins, fires, and irregular use in recent years. Now, with the removal of the barriers and advanced restoration, the landscape has changed, bringing optimism to merchants and attracting new projects to the region.
From ruin to Riachuelo Studio: why this mansion became a landmark
The Riachuelo Studio is presented as the destination of the restored mansion, repositioning the property as a cultural facility focused on digital culture. The impact begins with the symbolic: the past and future meet on a historic street that is once again seen as a place for circulation, visitation, and investment.

The location is significant. The mansion is located in front of Cine Passeio, another cultural facility linked to urban revitalization. This proximity creates a network effect: when one space reopens and attracts an audience, the surrounding area tends to follow in services, flow, and presence.
What changed on Riachuelo Street and why commerce gained confidence

The removal of the barriers by the City Hall revealed a new landscape and helped change the perception of the area. For those who rely on movement, the difference is seen in the feeling of security and the expectation of audience.
An example cited is that of entrepreneur Alexandre Nogueira Lopes, who chose Riachuelo Street to open an entertainment complex with a skate park and dining area, Love City.
He relates the decision to the revitalization process of the Center, with new ventures, restoration of historic buildings, and the consolidation of cultural facilities like Cine Passeio and the Riachuelo Studio itself.
Tourism and the “Cine Passeio effect”: the audience rediscovering the Center
The perceived improvement is not limited to commerce. Entrepreneur Cleusa de Oliveira, owner of a thrift store opened a year ago just a few meters from the future Riachuelo Studio, reports that the block has become quieter and the image of the street has completely changed.
She also points to the increase in tourist flow visiting Cine Passeio as a differentiator. The logic is simple: when the Center begins to offer cultural experiences close to each other, visitors tend to circulate more, consume more, and stay longer in the area. This flow helps transform the street into a destination, not just a passage.
Restoration with rules: how the mansion is being recovered
The restoration of the mansion is overseen by the Municipal Council of Cultural Heritage and conducted by the Curitiba Cultural Foundation and the Institute of Urban Research and Planning of Curitiba (Ippuc). The execution involves the Municipal Secretary of Public Works and the specialized company Arq Brasil.
The reported investment is R$ 2 million, with resources from the Cultural Heritage Protection Fund. The project has been discussed in five council meetings since 2023, a sign that the recovery is not just aesthetic: it needs to respect technical criteria and the historical value of the property.
Why the Riachuelo Studio could induce a new urban requalification
For Marino Galvão Junior, president of the Curitiba Cultural Foundation, the Riachuelo Studio symbolizes a new stage in the transformation of the central region.
The interpretation is that the project has layers: not only the restoration and new function of the space but also the integration with nearby cultural facilities, such as Cine Passeio and Solar do Barão.
In practical terms, the argument is that a recovered and consistently reoccupied mansion can act as a catalyst, driving improvements in the surroundings, strengthening the image of the Center, and creating a foundation for businesses that depend on audience, circulation, and trust.
In your opinion, what helps revitalize the Center more: restoring a historic mansion and bringing culture into it, or prioritizing security and commerce first to then attract cultural projects?
