Giants of the Electric Car Sector BYD and GWM Bring Thousands of New Electric Vehicles to the Brazilian Market and Plan to Revolutionize the Country with Their Models.
This Tuesday (29), a fleet of 2,796 electric cars from Chinese automakers GWM and BYD arrives in Brazil. According to the City Hall of Vila Velha (ES), where the ship Green Kami will dock, most of the electric vehicles are headed to São Paulo.
The ship left the port of Taicang, in eastern China, on July 18, and made its maiden voyage. The vessel belongs to the new generation of ships in the green fleet of China Ocean Shipping Company (Cosco), which is among the major shipyards worldwide.
About 15,000 Electric Vehicles Are Expected to Arrive in Brazil by the End of the Year
The electric vehicles brought by the ship are of the SUV type. According to the president of the Brazil-China Chamber of Commerce, Carlos Eiras, about 8,000 electric cars arrived in the country via the same route in the first half of this year.

The Secretary of Economic Development of Vila Velha, Everaldo Colodetti, notes that the Chinese automakers already operate in the country’s automotive market, in the electric and hybrid sector. Most of the electric vehicles go to the headquarters of Comexport, which operates in the imports sector and generated nearly R$ 4 billion in revenue in 2022, according to the secretary.

Local authorities have significantly invested in the port, modernizing its facilities to accommodate large vessels like the Green Kami, and facilitate the import of electric vehicles and other sustainable products.
BYD Dolphin or GWM Ora 3?
It is no surprise that the BYD Dolphin has impacted the national market. Launched at the beginning of July, the Chinese compact caused price reductions among its main competitors by costing the same or even less, while being superior in aspects such as space, range, technology, and power. However, its reign may be threatened by the arrival of the GWM Ora 3.
The GWM compact will start being delivered in the national market only in December; however, it has already been presented in detail to attract those who are eyeing the BYD Dolphin. The Ora 3 has two versions, with the Skin priced at R$ 150,000 and the GT at R$ 184,000.
The limited edition Copacabana, with 200 units, is also launched and sells for R$ 150,000 without a panoramic sunroof or R$ 160,000 with it.
