GE Power Conversion was hired to provide engineering solutions, manufacturing, and delivery of two electrical modules for Petrobras’ P-80 and P-83 platforms, which will operate in the exploration of the Brazilian pre-salt.
This project marks the continuation of the success of the electrical modules for another six FPSOs that GE provided for Petrobras in Búzios. The electrical modules are responsible for the distribution of electrical power to all the equipment necessary for the operation of the platforms. Additionally, these modules house the equipment that controls the vessel.
The entire scope of supply includes the complete construction of the mechanical module (e-House), including the supply of all electrical equipment related to medium and low voltage distribution panels, MCCs (motor control centers), CDCs (Load Distribution Center), power transformers, UPS (Uninterruptible Power Supply), Electrical Automation System, and a complete air conditioning system.
The project will be executed by the GE Power Conversion team, led in Asia and Latin America. Part of the team will be based locally in Singapore, where it will be responsible for engineering, management, and commissioning support during the final integration phase. Recognizing the local content of the project, the GE Power Conversion team in Latin America is responsible for project engineering, manufacturing the electrical equipment in Brazil, and providing technical support to the entire supply chain of the involved partners.

This contract strengthens the relationship between GE and Petrobras, showing that GE Power Conversion is a strategic partner of the company in this new cycle of investments in cutting-edge technology and pre-salt exploration.
Petrobras Platforms: Importance and Characteristics
Petrobras’ platforms are floating structures that resemble ships and are responsible for the production of oil and natural gas offshore, in deep and ultra-deep water regions. They are of great importance to the Brazilian economy, as oil and natural gas represent a significant portion of the country’s GDP.
Furthermore, the pre-salt has been a focus of considerable attention in recent years due to its large oil production capacity, representing a great opportunity for growth for Petrobras and the Brazilian oil sector. However, the extraction of oil in deep and ultra-deep water regions presents many technological challenges that require innovative and high-tech solutions.
In this context, the electrical modules offered by GE Power Conversion are of great importance for the operation of the Petrobras platforms. These equipment are essential for the distribution of electrical power to all the equipment used for oil and natural gas extraction offshore and, therefore, are highly relevant to the success of Petrobras operations.
