The Resumption of Production at the Unit in the State of Paraná
With an annual production capacity of 420,000 tons of crude steel, the unit located in Araucária, Paraná, has been dormant since 2014 and will gradually resume operations, with volumes adjusted in line with the evolution of the domestic market. As a result, around 300 new direct and indirect job opportunities will be generated.
Marcos Faraco, vice president of Gerdau, states that they are optimistic about the positive prospects presented for the domestic market. With the resumption of production, the company aims to continue meeting the increasing demand for long steels in Brazil, as well as optimizing the supply of products to customers throughout the country in conjunction with existing capacities.

In Addition to Investing in Paraná, Gerdau Will Also Invest in the State of Minas Gerais
Gerdau announced an investment plan of R$ 6 billion in the state of Minas Gerais over the next five years for modernization, technological updates, and expansion of its local operations. With this funding, the company reinforces its commitment to sustainable, economic, and social development in the state, generating more than 6,000 direct and indirect jobs.
Gerdau’s investments will be divided into three axes: growth, technological updating, and diversification, with enhancing environmental practices as a transversal premise of the announced program. This plan will encompass all regions of Minas Gerais where the company operates, benefiting dozens of municipalities in activities related to steel production, mining, renewable energy production, and planted forests.
Two major investments in the expansion of steel production will take place in Ouro Branco, Minas Gerais, where the company has its main production plant. The unit’s annual production capacity for hot rolled coils will be increased by 250,000 tons/year, with production scheduled to start in early 2024. Additionally, Gerdau is expanding the production of structural profiles by 500,000 tons/year, doubling the current capacity, with production projected to start in 2025. With this, Gerdau aims to continue addressing the growing consumption in the sectors that use these products in Brazil and Latin America.
