600-Horsepower Truck Discarded by Henry Ford, 30 Meters Long and Powered by Turbines, Located 40 Years After Disappearing
A semi-truck with gas-powered turbines, called Ford ‘Big Red’, was introduced by the American automaker in 1964 at the New York World’s Fair, alongside the Mustang. The Ford giant stands three meters tall, approximately 30 meters long, and is powered by an engine with nearly 600 hp of power.

The Ford ‘Big Red’ was functional and pleased the audience due to the innovation of its engine being practically a ‘lunar experiment’, with a gas turbine. However, the Ford truck was decommissioned after its developers realized that the technology was not viable.
What Happened to the Ford ‘Big Red’ Truck in These 40 Years?
After being discontinued, the Big Red truck passed through several owners until it simply disappeared in the early 1980s. Ford itself had no idea of the whereabouts of its gas-turbine truck. Several people attempted to locate the specimen, but the search lasted for years.

Until enthusiasts from the site The Drive hit the nail on the head and discovered that the truck still exists and is in the hands of the current owner of a company called H&M. He is the son of co-founder John Holman. And the owner has fully restored the truck.
The explanation from Holman-Moody, the penultimate owner of the Ford Big Red truck, is based on the U.S. Clean Air Act of 1970, aimed at reducing polluting gas emissions in the atmosphere. Holman-Moody was the former racing team sponsored by the Ford factory and was decommissioned precisely for not complying with this regulation.
Thus, the multinational ordered that its event trucks in California be destroyed.
Henry Ford II Discarded the Giant
Moody told The Drive that he received a letter (which he claims to still possess) from Henry Ford II stating, “Everything in your possession is yours to use as you see fit.” The Big Red truck was still at the company’s facility in California, and Ford resumed its search for it.
“When they called to say, ‘Okay, we arranged a tow truck to pick up Big Red; my father received that letter,’ said Holman. “And after Henry had been so rude and unpleasant, he told Ford: ‘Get lost, Big Red is ours’ – in those words.”
