End of Ford’s Activities in Brazil
The announcement of the end of Ford’s car production in Brazil occurred on January 11. The automaker stated that the Camaçari and Taubaté plants would continue operating for a period to produce replacement parts, but the factories were closed for over a month until an agreement was reached between the brand and worker representatives.
Ford will still determine what will be done with the two factories. The government of Bahia had even revealed inquiries from potential interested parties, including Chinese, Indian, South Korean, and Japanese brands. Caoa was also pointed out as a possible buyer and has expressed interest in the Camaçari unit.
Ka and Ecosport Discontinued
Meanwhile, Ford is preparing to change its product line, focusing on imported models with higher added value. Ka and Ecosport, which have been discontinued, are beginning to disappear from dealerships, and the American multinational is expected to soon introduce its new product in Brazil: the Bronco Sport SUV, coming from Mexico.
The changes have already impacted Ford’s sales in the early months of the year. The brand saw its market share drop from 7.15% to 5% – distributors believe it will reach 1.4% with the company’s new policy. Meanwhile, the Ka, which always ranked among the five best-selling cars in the country, only placed 30th in February, according to data from Fenabrave.
