The deadline to withdraw approximately R$ 8.6 billion forgotten in banks and other financial institutions has been extended for another six months.
This decision benefits both individuals and companies that were unable to claim their funds by the previous deadline, which ended on October 16, 2024.
The guidelines for requesting the money will be detailed in a notice to be published by the Ministry of Finance.
System for Values to Be Received (SVR)
The Central Bank of Brazil provides the System for Values to Be Received (SVR), a platform that allows users to check for forgotten funds in various financial institutions.
Through the SVR, it is possible to verify if individuals, including deceased persons, or companies, even those that have ceased operations, have unclaimed funds in banks, consortia, or other financial entities.
According to Law No. 2,313 of 1954, if these resources are not requested within 25 years, they may be incorporated into the Union’s assets.
Details of the Notice and Deadlines
The Ministry of Finance will publish a notice containing information about the available amounts, including the institution where they are deposited, the nature of the deposit, the agency, and the account number.
After publication, the holders will have 30 days to contest the collection of the funds, needing to contact the corresponding financial institutions directly.
If there is no contestation during this period, it will still be possible to claim the right to the funds judicially for an additional six-month period.
After this period, the unclaimed resources will be incorporated by the Union.
Available Amounts
By the end of the previous deadline, out of the R$ 8.6 billion available, R$ 6.62 billion belonged to individuals and R$ 1.97 billion to companies.
The Central Bank and the Ministry of Finance have not yet released the updated balance of the unclaimed amounts.
The SVR reopened in March 2023, after nearly a year offline, with new sources of funds and the possibility of recovering amounts from deceased persons.
Until August 2024, the Central Bank facilitated the return of R$ 8 billion, out of a total of R$ 16.6 billion made available by the financial institutions.
How to Consult and Request the Withdrawal of Money
To check if you have amounts to receive, follow these steps:
- Access the Central Bank’s website and navigate to the SVR page.
- Provide the requested information, such as CPF or CNPJ and date of birth or company establishment date.
- The system will inform you if there are amounts to be withdrawn and will provide instructions on how to proceed.
It is important to emphasize that the process is free and does not require payment of fees.
Scams have been reported in which fraudulent ads claim that the government charges a fee for the withdrawal of these amounts.
The Central Bank clarifies that there is no charge for this service, and the entire process is conducted exclusively through the official website.
Attention to Scams
Recently, fraudulent ads have circulated using manipulated videos of public figures to promote misleading links that promise the recovery of forgotten amounts.
These videos direct users to fake websites that solicit payments or personal data.
The Central Bank emphasizes that the legitimate recovery of forgotten amounts is done exclusively through the SVR and is completely free of charge.
The extension of the deadline for the withdrawal of forgotten money offers a new opportunity for citizens and businesses to recover resources that could otherwise be incorporated into the Union’s assets.
It is crucial that interested parties pay attention to official guidelines and be suspicious of communications that request payments or personal data.
