New Park of 14.8 Thousand M² in Praia Grande Brings Sports Areas, Complete Accessibility, and State Investment Over R$ 6.5 Million.

The Government of the State of São Paulo, through the Department of Tourism and Travel (Setur-SP), and the City Hall of Praia Grande will deliver the Vila São Jorge Park, a new public leisure area with 14.8 thousand m² in the Antártica neighborhood.

The space was designed to enhance the offer of sports and outdoor activities in the city and will have its inauguration marked for December 6, at 10 AM, on Profundir Street, in Praia Grande.

Complete Leisure and Accessibility Structure

In the new park, residents and visitors will find a structure aimed at everyday use, with options for different age groups.

The project includes a walking path, bicycle lane, multi-sports courts, skate park, soccer field, ice skating rink, fitness equipment, and a children’s playground.

In addition to sports equipment, the space will have a Dog Park, an exclusive area for pet owners who want to take their pets for walks in a suitable environment.

The proposal is for the park to function as a community meeting point, providing leisure for families, young people, children, and elderly people in the same public facility.

The construction also includes paved sidewalks, landscaping, installation of urban furniture, and technical safety items.

Among these resources is the Lightning Protection System (SPDA), which reduces risks in the event of lightning and storms.

According to the São Paulo government, the park was developed with a focus on universal accessibility, with accessible routes and adaptations that facilitate use by people with reduced mobility or disabilities.

Investment of More Than R$ 7.3 Million

The implementation of the Vila São Jorge Park is the result of an agreement between Setur-SP and the City Hall of Praia Grande, with funding from the Department of Support for the Development of Tourist Municipalities (Dadetur).

Of the total investment, R$ 6,583,699.97 comes from the State Government, and R$ 722,776.12 corresponds to the municipal counterpart, totaling R$ 7,306,476.09 allocated to the project.

This type of agreement is one of the main tools used by Setur-SP to support tourist infrastructure in cities with potential for the sector.

Dadetur is responsible for distributing state funds for projects that improve the tourist structure of municipalities, such as parks, squares, signage, and access.

Statement from the Secretary of Tourism and Travel

When announcing the new park, the State Secretary of Tourism and Travel, Roberto de Lucena, highlighted the relationship between the quality of life of the local population and tourism attractiveness.

“A good tourist city is one where the resident is happy to live in it. The delivery of this new park will benefit the entire population. The equipment we are delivering is of excellent quality and will certainly further strengthen tourism activity on the coast of São Paulo”, said the secretary.

Praia Grande as a Tourist Resort

Praia Grande is part of the group of Tourist Resorts in the State of São Paulo and is located in the Santos Administrative Region, composed of nine municipalities.

Of this total, eight hold the title of Tourist Resort: Bertioga, Guarujá, Itanhaém, Mongaguá, Peruíbe, Praia Grande, Santos, and São Vicente.

The municipality of Cubatão is classified as a Municipality of Tourist Interest (MIT).

In the last three years, the State Government has transferred R$ 192,682,488.84 to the Santos Administrative Region.

Of this amount, R$ 39,585,698.27 was specifically allocated to Praia Grande.

This flow of investments adds to other projects already delivered in the city with the support of Setur-SP, reinforcing the strategy to consolidate Praia Grande as a well-structured destination on the southern coast of São Paulo.

Participation in State Tourism Programs

In addition to investments in infrastructure, Praia Grande participates in 11 programs from the Secretariat of Tourism and Travel of São Paulo.

These include: Tourist Routes, SP Ecoaventura, Gastronomic Routes, Pet Friendly, Art and Crafts, Wildlife, Cycling Tourism, Afro Tourism Guide, Religious Tourism Guide, Bread Shops Guide, and Halal Tourism Guide.

These initiatives map attractions, businesses, and experiences, connecting municipalities to thematic routes that enhance nature tourism, gastronomy, culture, faith, and outdoor activities.

The simultaneous presence in diverse programs reinforces Praia Grande’s role as a city that combines beach, urban leisure, events, and services.

New Conviviality Pole for Residents and Tourists

With the completion of Vila São Jorge Park, the expectation of the state government and the City Hall is to create a new daily conviviality point for residents of the Antártica neighborhood and other regions of the city.

The combined offer of a skate park, walking structure, courts, fields, pet area, and fitness equipment is expected to stimulate the use of the space at different times.

At the same time, the park adds to other investments that aim to decentralize leisure throughout the city, better distributing the benefits of tourism across the territory.

With the new space of 14.8 thousand m² coming to fruition, the question now is: how should the Vila São Jorge Park be used by the population to become part of the routine of those who live in and visit Praia Grande?
