The Federal Government Announced Billion-Dollar Investment to Create Hundreds of New Federal Institutes, Generating Thousands of Job Opportunities, Stay Alert and Secure Your Opportunity!
On Tuesday (12), President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva launched the plan to expand the federal network of technical education, with the creation of 100 new campuses of Federal Institutes of Education, Science and Technology (IFs) across Brazil. The initiative will reach all federative units and create thousands of new job opportunities, in addition to 140,000 new places in integrated technical courses with high school education.
The expansion of the Federal Network of Professional, Scientific and Technological Education was announced by the Federal Government in December of last year, during its participation in the National Youth Conference.
The federal institutes are institutions specialized in professional and technological education, also offering basic and higher education. The courses are free. The government’s aim is to increase the number of job opportunities and chances in professional and technological education and create opportunities for young people and adults, especially the most vulnerable.

According to Lula, during the ceremony at the Palácio do Planalto, it is based on investment in education that the country can be sure Brazil will become a developed first-world country, composed largely of middle-class individuals.
Thus, when the federal government speaks of investment in education, it is because a profession gives individuals a state of citizenship that cannot be attained without education, Lula emphasizes, highlighting the importance of professional training for women, especially those living in contexts of domestic violence.
R$ 3.9 Billion in Investments
R$ 3.9 billion will be invested in construction at federal institutes through the New Growth Acceleration Program (PAC), generating thousands of job opportunities. Of this total, R$ 2.5 billion is for the establishment of new campuses and R$ 1.4 billion for improvements to existing facilities, such as the construction of cafeterias, gyms, libraries, classrooms, and equipment purchases.
The Minister of Education, Camilo Santana, explained the criteria for selecting the municipalities that will receive the new campuses.
According to Santana, first, it is necessary to look at demographic voids, examine the proportion of technical education enrollment offered in each state, and consider the number of institutes per population in each state. The Northeast is the region that will receive the largest number of new Federal Institutes. A total of 38 campuses will be in the nine states.
The Southeast follows with 27 new campuses, followed by the South Region with 13, the North with 12, and the Central-West with 10. Among the states, São Paulo is the most benefited by the Federal Government’s initiative, with 12 new campuses. Minas Gerais and Bahia will each have eight units. Next are Pernambuco, Ceará, and Rio de Janeiro, with six each, and Paraná, Rio Grande do Sul, and Pará, each with five.
Follow The Growth of Federal Institutes
According to the Federal Government, by 2002, Brazil had 140 technical schools. In 2008, during his second term, Lula signed Law No. 11.892/2008, which established the Federal Network of Professional, Scientific, and Technological Education and created 38 federal institutes, generating thousands of job opportunities.
The Federal Network of Professional, Scientific, and Technological Education is formed by IFs, two Federal Centers of Technological Education (Cefets), technical schools linked to federal universities, the Federal Technological University of Paraná, and Colégio Pedro II.
