Brazilian Aluminum Company (CBAV3) Earned R$ 426 Million, Thanks to Important Projects and Market Expansion
São Paulo, May 9, 2022 – Despite the unfavorable economic scenario we are facing, the Brazilian Aluminum Company (CBAV3) stood out in the market, reporting a profit of R$ 426 million in the first three months of the year. This achievement is even greater when we see that the same company had an estimated loss of R$ 133 million at the same time in 2021.
However, now the net revenue reaches R$ 2.3 billion and represents an exponential growth compared to the same period last year, which is a 31% increase. Furthermore, EBITDA (Earnings Before Interest, Taxes, Depreciation, and Amortization) saw a 53% increase in the first three months of 2022, which implies a total value of R$ 552 million.
The growth does not stop there. Aluminum prices reached US$ 3,280/ton, which represents a 56% increase compared to the same time last year. Even with a 9% decrease (109,000 tons) in sales volume, the company still managed to record a 32% increase in net revenue.

Gasoline prices soar and the question arises: is ethanol more advantageous? The 70% rule reveals the limit with gasoline.
But how was this possible? The company directed a significant part of its sales to the international market through exports. This way, it achieved sales of 10,000 tons of billets, a type of primary aluminum, in the first half of 2022. This is 10 times more than the same period in 2021, when sales reached only 0.9 thousand tons.
On the environmental front, the company had sales of 4,000 tons more of recycled products compared to last year, also considering the acquisition of Alux do Brasil, a major national supplier of secondary aluminum. By acquiring 80% of Alux’s capital, CBA can now reach a production of 46,000 tons of secondary (recycled) aluminum per year and gains market share through this sustainable initiative that contributes to the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions.
Other sub-segments were also impacted by this increase. However, they experienced more subtle growth. In the transportation segment, the increase was 0.3%, and in the bus chassis segment, it was 10% compared to the same period in 2021, according to Anfir – National Association of Road Implement Manufacturers and Fabus – National Association of Bus Manufacturers. However, according to the records from Anfavea – National Association of Motor Vehicle Manufacturers, the light vehicle production sub-segment saw a decrease of 18.6% compared to the same period last year.
Even with the rise in sales and various internal sectors, the primary aluminum premium (Platts) fell by 0.6% in the first quarter of 2022 compared to the previous quarter. But, compared to the same period in 2021, there was a 22% increase.
It was not only the rise in aluminum prices that brought these results. Factors such as a diverse product catalog, integration among the company’s internal sectors, and a focus on directing sales to the external market are the major contributors to this excellent result.
Important Projects
Strengthening its environmental front, CBA is working to expedite the conclusion of sustainable projects like the new furnace feeding technology that reduces greenhouse gas emissions contributing to global warming. The completion is expected in the third quarter of 2022, which was initially planned for 2023, and will bring greater energy efficiency, increased operational safety, and decreased water consumption for the aluminum manufacturing process.
CBA is also expanding its market in the first quarter of 2022 by launching the Primora line, which brings different aluminum structures for various projects involving windows, doors, and facades for mid- and high-end buildings.
Sustainable Aluminum
Another major victory for CBA in this first quarter was the reduction in carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions during aluminum production. According to records from the Greenhouse Gas Emissions Inventory (GEE), CBA produced a value 5 times lower than the world average, which is a very positive result for Brazil. As a result, CBA became the only aluminum producer company in the world to achieve the established targets for reducing these gas emissions.
Additionally, the company began managing the 21 hydroelectric plants in Brazil, which were previously supervised by Auren, boasting a 100% renewable capacity.
Due to all these achievements on the environmental front, the company received an A rating in the annual assessment of a highly respected international ranking on climate change, the CDP (Carbon Disclosure Project).
Social Responsibility
The company also does not fall short on the social front. In this first quarter of 2022, the company recorded a rate of 15.3% of women in the overall workforce, a 1% increase compared to the previous quarter. The company aims to reach a percentage of 50% by the year 2030, with a good distribution of positions, including management.
Who is CBA?
