The New GWM Poer Pickup Is Coming to Brazil, Promising to Be a Strong Contender Against the Established Toyota Hilux with Up to 462 Horsepower and a Payload Capacity of 1 Ton.

Expected to arrive in Brazil soon, the GWM Poer pickup positions itself as a strong competitor to the Toyota Hilux in 2024. Well-equipped and ready to take on one of the most popular models in the national market, the Poer represents another significant advance by Chinese automakers in Brazil. Already available in Argentina through direct import from China, this midsize pickup is expected to hit the Brazilian market by mid-year, promising to shake up the segment with its features and performance.

There are plans for local production in Iracemápolis, São Paulo. This local production could result in more affordable versions, expanding the offerings of the Toyota Hilux rival in the Brazilian market. Currently, price speculations range between R$ 200,000 and R$ 300,000, strengthening its position as a competitive option within the currently found standards.

The GWM Poer uses, in addition to a combustion version, also a hybrid engine. However, the company still keeps some mechanical details secret about what exactly will come to Brazil.

One speculated configuration includes a 1.5 turbo engine and two electric motors, providing a power output of 393 horsepower (hp). There are also rumors of a base version with mechanical similarities to the H6 HEV, with a combined power of 243 horsepower. The safest bets regarding its engine configuration are in another setup. This would be a plug-in hybrid (Hi4) with flex fuel, incorporating three motors, one electric on each axle and one combustion engine in the front.

In this version, the combustion engine is a 2.0 flex turbo, with 255 horsepower and 38.7 mkgf. Therefore, with a dual electric motor of 163 horsepower, the combined power reaches 462 horsepower, powered by 20 kWh batteries with an electric range of up to 100 km.

New GWM Poer Can Transport Up to 1 Ton

It is worth noting that the Toyota Hilux rival still comes with a complete package of features. Firstly, 4×4 traction, rear differential lock, and three driving modes are highlighted.

Regarding dimensions, the pickup impresses, with about 5.41 meters in length, 1.032 meters in width, 1.87 m in height, and 3.23 meters in wheelbase. All this imposing size is applied to its payload capacity, which reaches an impressive mark of 1 ton. Furthermore, the towing capacity can go up to 3.5 tons.

In Argentina, the warranty offered for the GWM Poer pickup is 3 years or up to 100,000 km. Compared to the Chinese model, the Toyota Hilux delivers a 2.8 liter diesel engine. It offers 204 horsepower and 42.8 kgfm of torque, consuming 10.3 km/L in the city and 11.8 km/L on the highway.

The Japanese model has a height of 1,815 mm, a width of 1,855 mm, a length of 5,325 mm, weighs 2,090 kg, and has a generous wheelbase of 3,085 mm.
