Companies’ Responses
In a statement, Ambev confirmed the case and expressed surprise at the occurrence involving the third party. The company stated that it will closely monitor the legal developments to ensure the payment of “all labor compensation and indemnities”.
“Following the guidelines and with the agreement of the labor auditors, we ensured that the contracting supplier paid all labor compensation and indemnities and that the carrier arranged for the drivers’ return to their place of origin or their families’ arrival, as per each individual’s choice,” the advisory said.
The Heineken group stated that the company “completely repudiates any form of action that does not respect the fundamental rights of workers.” In a statement, the company reinforced that it had no direct link to the drivers, but that they were hired by the carrier that provides services to the group.
“In respect to these workers, we blocked the credits that the supplier was to receive as a result of the services rendered, until the indemnities agreed upon between the carrier and the labor prosecution office are fully paid. It is worth noting that all suppliers of the Company go through a rigorous selection process and sign a Code of Conduct where they commit to fully comply with labor laws and human rights,”
Coca Cola and Heineken Make a Deal and the Dispute with Ambev is Expected to Intensify Among the Beverage Supply Giants
The dispute begins between beverage giants Coca Cola and Heineken and Ambev in the Brazilian market. Coca Cola announced an agreement with Heineken to remodel its distribution network in Brazil, putting the multinational Ambev, the largest beverage company in the world, in a precarious position.
The partnership between the giants Heineken and Coca Cola will come into effect mid this year and will be valid until 2026, but there is a possibility that it will be extended for another five years.
Analysts suggest that the agreement means more competition between the giants Ambev, Coca Cola, and Heineken.
