Gold Production Mine in Mara Rosa is Hochschild’s New Bet for its Expansion in the Mining Sector and Company Receives Installation License at the Site

The gold production mine located in Mara Rosa, Goiás state, was a project belonging to Amarillo Gold and has recently become property of Hochschild. Now, the company has received the necessary installation license from the state government to start building the gold exploration plant, aiming to take advantage of the large reserves of ore available in the state and expand production within the mining sector.

The Mara Rosa mine project will be an open-pit mining operation, which is in an advanced stage of development with a forecast for commercial production in two years. Additionally, the Peruvian company Hochschild announced that it will make a total investment of R$ 900 million at the site. The company intends to invest in acquiring state-of-the-art equipment to make the gold production chain even more efficient, productive, and highly profitable for the company over the coming years in Goiás state.

In addition to focusing on gold production and profitability for the company, the mine project will also have a strong investment in attracting new job opportunities for local residents. Thus, Hochschild is expecting to create 1,350 direct jobs during the construction phase of the plant, and another 810 in the next operational stage. Consequently, the state government announced its full support for the venture, as it will be essential for the economic and social growth of the Goiás region.

Initial Gold Production Plan at the Mara Rosa Mine is 10 Years and the Company Plans to Expand Resource Exploration in Goiás State

The investment of R$ 900 million in the Mara Rosa mine will be essential to ensure a much more efficient and agile production chain for Hochschild. Thus, after receiving the installation license, the company announced that the initial plan for gold production is estimated at 10 years and that the venture is expected to produce 102,000 ounces of gold in the first four years of operations, and 80,000 in the subsequent years.

The company also commented on the significance of this project for investment in more sustainable gold production, and Hochschild’s country manager in Brazil, Edson Del Moro, stated that “Through a dry stacking filtration system for waste, we eliminate the risks of a dam while recycling 85% of the water, which returns to the production process in a closed circuit, ensuring greater safety and protection for the community and the environment.”

Present at the installation license granting meeting were the governor of Goiás, the ambassador of Peru in Brazil, Romulo Acurio, the Secretary of Industry and Commerce of Goiás, Joel Santana, and the Secretary of the Environment, Andréa Vulcanis, in addition to the mayor of Mara Rosa, Flávio Moura.
