Entrepreneur Develops System Connected to Motorcycle After Dangerous Situation on Frei Serafim Avenue and Now Faces Debate on Traffic Legislation
An entrepreneur from Teresina, Piauí, drew attention on social media by creating a helmet with an integrated turn signal that blinks simultaneously with the motorcycle’s. Domingos Santos, owner of a motorcycle parts store in the capital, decided to develop the equipment after facing dangerous situations while riding on Frei Serafim Avenue, one of the city’s main roads.
The information was reported by the “g1” portal, which showed how the videos gained significant attention in recent days. Since then, the innovation has sparked debates about road safety and also about the legality of the accessory.
Idea Emerged After Near-Collision and Discussion in Traffic
According to Domingos, the project was born after a driver nearly collided with his motorcycle and claimed he did not see the signaling. In one incident, the driver even brushed against the back of the motorcycle.

With about 4,000 m², the building constructed in a traditional neighborhood in France looks like a rainbow, has a colorful facade, mixes vibrant glass, and creates one of the most unusual visuals in Bordeaux.
“One day I signaled, and the guy came close to hitting my bike from behind. We argued, and he said he didn’t see the turn signal. The bike fell, and it was still signaling. That’s when the idea to put the signal on the helmet was born, to make it easier to see,” he told g1.
In light of this situation, Domingos decided to take action. He installed lights on the sides of the helmet and connected the system directly to the motorcycle. Thus, whenever the motorcyclist activates the motorcycle’s turn signal, the helmet lights blink automatically.
In this way, he increased visibility of the signal for other drivers. Furthermore, according to the entrepreneur himself, the equipment draws attention on the streets.
“Wherever I go, people smile, they find it curious. Every day someone stops me to ask how I made the motorcycle’s turn signal work on the helmet as well,” he stated.
Videos Go Viral and Increase Demand for the System
After the videos circulated on social media, demand for the system grew rapidly. According to Domingos, almost every day someone sends a message asking to install the same mechanism.
Additionally, the interest is not limited to Teresina. People from other places are also seeking the entrepreneur.
However, despite the growing demand, Domingos still does not offer the service to third parties. He wants, first of all, to confirm whether the legislation allows such modifications.
“Almost every day, people ask me to do it, both here in Teresina and from other places. But I still don’t do it because I need to check if the law allows,” he explained.
What Does the Legislation Say About Helmets with Integrated Lighting
Currently, Brazil does not have specific certification for helmets with integrated lighting systems like the one presented in the videos. Since the helmet functions as regulated safety equipment, any alteration in its structure may raise legal questions.
Moreover, installing accessories outside of the standard may be considered irregular. In these cases, the traffic agent may classify the driver as using non-permitted equipment or modifying vehicle characteristics without authorization.
This offense is regarded as serious and entails:
- Fine of R$ 195.23
- Five points on the National Driver’s License (CNH)
- Possibility of vehicle retention for regularization
Therefore, although the entrepreneur’s intention is to enhance safety and prevent accidents, using a helmet with an integrated turn signal may lead to penalties if authorities determine that irregular modifications were made.
At the same time, the initiative raises an important discussion: should legislation evolve to allow technologies that increase visibility and safety for motorcyclists?
And you, do you believe that this type of innovation should be regulated to help prevent traffic accidents?
