Horwin Brazil Formed a Partnership with CBMM Brazil to Build the First Electric Motorcycle That Will Use Niobium Battery and Will Have Ultra-Fast Charging

The electric motorcycle company Horwin Brazil formed a partnership with the world’s leading specialist in Niobium Technology, CBMM, with the mission to expand access to renewable energy and contribute to the expansion of electromobility in Brazil. The agreement was signed in January of this year, but became public this Thursday (31), and provides for the use of a niobium battery in an electric motorcycle. The estimate is that the pilot project will be launched still in the first half of this year. Large-scale production is scheduled for 2024 and, according to calculations, only in this first year, 100 thousand electric motorcycles will be sold just for the national market.

Electric Motorcycle with Niobium Battery Will Be the First to Enter the Market

According to Rogério Marques Ribas, manager of the battery program at CBMM Brazil, this is a pioneering technology in commercial electric motorcycles. The project between CBMM and Horwin is the first application of ultra-fast charging niobium batteries in a commercial motorcycle.

According to Marques, developing the battery is considered a simple step, and the manufacture of the electric motorcycle itself involves a lot of engineering and embedded technology. According to the manager, discussions between the companies were already taking place even before the partnership was finalized.

Marques states that Horwin is a company focused on electric motorcycles, and not a traditional motorcycle company that is migrating from the market. Since 2014, the company has sold more than 2 million electric motorcycles around the world. Therefore, the company already has the concept of delivering renewable energy to society in its DNA. For this reason, it joined CBMM, but at the time the technology was not yet ready to be integrated into a product.

Advantages of the Niobium Battery in an Electric Motorcycle

According to the CEO of Horwin Brazil, Pricilla Favero, the company is very proud to work alongside CBMM in Brazil. It is not just the development of the niobium battery, but also its application in a commercial motorcycle.

According to the executive, the entire company team is committed to bringing this electric motorcycle to life with fewer charging minutes. According to Pricilla, the prototype of the project will be presented still in the first half of this year, and the chosen model was the CR6, which features a 6,200W motor and a range of 150 km.

Ribas also highlights the advantages of the electric motorcycle that will feature the niobium battery. According to him, it is a motorcycle with a bold design and high performance, and it is very likely to have good numbers in its acceleration, delivering a range above 100 km, which should be used in an urban route. The expectation is that the electric motorcycle will be charged in just 10 minutes.

CBMM Brazil Also Formed a Partnership with Volkswagen

Ribas emphasizes that the company is already involved in several partnerships with other companies in the market, whether in developing applications of niobium for electric mobility or in vehicle structures.

An example is the partnership with Volkswagen Trucks and Buses, which was announced last year. The idea is to apply niobium batteries in large electric trucks. The estimate is that the testing phase will begin next year at the automaker’s factory in Resende, Rio de Janeiro, and shortly thereafter move to the company’s industrial plant in Araxá.
