The decision to buy a new iPhone always involves careful analysis, but in 2025, the doubt between the iPhone 15 or iPhone 16 has become even more relevant. With the price difference between the two models hovering around R$ 700, many are asking: is it worth paying a little more for the latest release, or is it better to save and take the excellent iPhone 15 home?

The answer is not so simple and depends on what you value most in a smartphone. We analyzed the key points, such as cameras, performance, and primarily, the artificial intelligence features, to help you make the best choice.

Design: A Familiar Look

At first glance, the iPhone 15 and the iPhone 16 are almost identical. They share the same screen size, the same edges, and the same comfortable grip. From the front, it is practically impossible to distinguish between the two devices. The main visual change is at the back, with a new vertical camera positioning on the iPhone 16, but overall, the visual identity has been maintained.

iPhone 15 or iPhone 16? The R$ 700 difference in 2025 raises questions about cost-effectiveness

Both phones have a 48-megapixel main camera that delivers incredible photos, with very little difference between them in day-to-day usage. The significant evolution of the iPhone 16 is in its second lens, the ultra-wide.

Macro Photography: The ultra-wide lens on the iPhone 16 now features autofocus, allowing you to take photos in macro mode, capturing details up close. This function is not available on the iPhone 15.
Spatial Videos: Only the iPhone 16 can record spatial videos in 3D, which can be viewed on the Apple Vision Pro.
Camera Button: The newer model also features a physical button exclusively for camera control, making it easier to take pictures.

Performance and The Deciding Factor: Apple Intelligence

This is the most important difference. The iPhone 15 comes with the powerful A16 Bionic chip, while the iPhone 16 is equipped with the new A18. For common tasks like social media and browsing, the speed difference is imperceptible. However, the A18 chip is what enables Apple Intelligence, Apple’s set of artificial intelligence features.

The iPhone 15 does not support these functions. Although current AI features (such as transcription and translation) are still basic, buying the iPhone 16 is a bet on the future. Apple will certainly release updates with more advanced AI functions, and only the newer models will be compatible.

Exclusive Features and The Verdict

In addition to AI and camera improvements, the iPhone 16 also replaced the classic mute button with the Action Button, which can be customized to open the camera, turn on the flashlight, or any other shortcut.

Go for the iPhone 15 if: your main focus is on saving. It remains an extremely competent smartphone, fast and with excellent cameras that won’t disappoint you.
Go for the iPhone 16 if: you seek the best cost-benefit and want a device ready for the future. The additional R$ 700 is fully justified by the guaranteed access to future artificial intelligence functions, the macro camera, the Action Button, and higher resale value.
