Carbon Neutral Thermoelectric Plant in Bahia
The new thermoelectric plant in Camaçari, Bahia, built by Imetame, will have a structure entirely powered by natural gas. The initial idea for the plant was that it would use biomass, but the project based on another entrepreneur ultimately failed, and the company took on the idea for the thermoelectric plant.
Thus, Imetame purchased the PPA from the former entrepreneur and presented its idea; however, it will still be subject to regulatory approvals from the Brazilian government.

Imetame’s Thermoelectric Plant in Camaçari (BA) Will Have Investments of R$180 Million
Named UTE Prosperidade III, the thermoelectric plant to be built in Camaçari (BA) will initially receive an investment of R$180 million, with the initial expectation that it will begin operation in the second half of 2022.
“Our new thermoelectric plant in Bahia will consist of a combination of three types of plants; however, the other two previous plants were contracted through energy auctions. All plant models used for Imetame’s project idea are part of a model called ‘gas-to-wire’, located near Imetame’s gas wells in the Recôncavo Baiano,” said Gilson Pereira, executive director of Imetame.
