At 222 Meters and US$ 600 Million, Somnio Will Be the Largest Yacht-Residence in the World, with 39 Apartments, Spas, Helipads, and Unprecedented Luxury at Sea.
Officially announced in 2021, Somnio is set to redefine the concept of luxury on the water. With 222 meters in length and an estimated investment of US$ 600 million (R$ 3.2 billion), the project that marries Norwegian naval engineering with Italian design promises to be the largest yacht-residence in the world and the first mixed-use maritime development geared exclusively towards millionaires and billionaires.
Designed by VARD, a subsidiary of the Italian group Fincantieri, the vessel will essentially be a floating city of six floors, featuring 39 private apartments, each costing from US$ 11 million (R$ 59 million). The expectation is that the first units will be delivered in the coming years, and only guests selected by the project administration will be able to purchase one of the spaces—reinforcing the ultra-exclusive nature of the vessel.
The Largest Yacht-Residence in the World
Somnio, whose name in Latin means “to dream,” is not just another superyacht, but a new model of mobile housing for the global elite.

iPhone in 2026: the technological innovations that go beyond cameras and processors
Onboard, there will be international-class restaurants, private wineries, fully equipped gyms, rejuvenation spas, panoramic lounges, and even a platform for diving and water sports.
The ship will be powered by state-of-the-art hybrid engines, focusing on energy efficiency and emissions reduction.
The system will utilize electric propulsion assisted by clean fuel, making Somnio one of the most sustainable superyachts in its category. Additionally, it will feature two helipads for simultaneous landings and independent technical areas that allow for long ocean voyages without the need for constant refueling.
Cutting-Edge Engineering and Design
Built at the VARD Langsten shipyards in Norway, Somnio combines Scandinavian naval engineering with the refinement of Italian design from Fincantieri. The project is signed by the Winch Design (UK) and Tillberg Design (Sweden) studios, two of the most respected names in the high-end maritime industry.
The yacht’s hull has been designed to withstand extreme conditions, including polar crossings, while maintaining total comfort thanks to an active stabilization system that reduces roll by up to 80%. Each apartment will feature a private terrace, spacious suites with 270° panoramic views, dining room, equipped kitchen, private cinema, and in some cases, integrated jacuzzi and gym.
The idea, according to the designers, is to offer an “experience of a permanent home on the ocean”—combining the privacy of a mansion with the mobility of a global expedition ship.
Luxury and Sustainability Side by Side with the Arrival of the Somnio Yacht
Although Somnio symbolizes the pinnacle of sophistication, its creators emphasize environmental sustainability as a pillar of the project. In addition to the hybrid propulsion system, the ship will feature internal waste treatment, seawater desalination, thermal energy recycling, and an internal oceanographic research program.
Part of the vessel’s profits will be allocated to fund studies on the climate impact on oceans. The ship will also operate as a kind of mobile embassy for sustainability events and international environmental conferences.
A Floating Elite Investment
The apartments in Somnio will be sold under a regime of shared ownership and contractual confidentiality. Owners will have lifelong usage rights and will be able to personalize the interior to their taste, hiring world-renowned designers.
Common areas, such as pools, decks, and restaurants, will be managed like a luxury maritime condominium, with a fixed crew of only 150 crew members and personalized service 24 hours a day.
The annual maintenance and operation of the yacht is expected to exceed US$ 25 million, covered by condominium fees paid by residents. Costs include fuel, crew, ports, events, and global logistics. The vessel is expected to navigate seasonal routes ranging from the Mediterranean, Caribbean, Northern Europe, and South Pacific.
The New Symbol of Global Exclusivity
Somnio inaugurates a new category of vessels: the yacht-residence—a fusion of a five-star hotel, luxury condominium, and scientific expedition ship. With its dimensions and values, it surpasses any superyacht ever built and even traditional cruise ships in terms of customization.
While most people dream of a beachfront home, Somnio offers something even more exclusive: a home that moves across the sea, surrounded by luxury, technology, and absolute seclusion. The project reinforces the global trend of a new type of elite seeking privacy, security, and geographical freedom in times of global uncertainties.
With construction progressing in Norway, Somnio has already become an icon even before setting sail. More than just a vessel, it is a symbol of humanity’s ability to transform luxury, engineering, and imagination into a single monumental structure.
When it finally sails, it will mark a new chapter in the history of the shipbuilding industry, the moment when the concept of “living at sea” stopped being a metaphor to become a reality.

A inveja mata.
