Bernard Looney, BP's managing director, said of the company's partnership with Equinor, "This is an important first step in our strategy and future transition to being an integrated energy company."
In a note, BP says it wants to meet the goals of the renewable energy sector. The company also claims that it will change from an oil company to an energy sector company. The group had already published a note that by 2030 it will “multiply by ten” investments in renewable energies due to carbon emissions. The company's annual investment will be around 5 million dollars.
Bernard Looney even reported that offshore wind power systems will see a 20% increase worldwide, especially in the US.
BP and Equinor intend to study the possibility of carrying out projects in which the wind system is located offshore, in the North American market.
Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the oil company was seriously hampered in terms of lack of demand.
