Like the Isetta, which was manufactured by BMW in the 1950s and 1960s, the Microlino retains the distinctive feature of a single door at the front, but with a modern electric upgrade.
Since its debut, the Microlino, perhaps the smallest electric car in the world, has gone through several revisions. In 2020, it received a retro-modern design, and in 2022, new concepts were presented, including a tourist-oriented version, now revealed in Paris as the Spiaggina model.
The Smallest Electric Car In The World
The Spiaggina, an electric version aimed at tourist destinations in Europe, was inspired by classic beach models such as the Fiat 600 Jolly and the Citroën Méhari. The car was designed to be used in summer tourist areas like Portofino, St. Tropez, or Ibiza, offering a blend of retro charm with the modern technology of an electric car.
This model fits into the category of light electric vehicles (L7e), reaching a maximum speed of 90 km/h with a 12.5 kW motor. The 10.5 kWh battery ensures a range of up to 177 km per charge, making it an efficient and practical option for short to medium-distance trips in tourist areas.
Functional And Elegant Design
The Spiaggina is built with a lightweight steel and aluminum structure. Its open sides allow air to flow freely, but there is also a striped canvas roof that can be adjusted to protect occupants from the sun or rain. The versatility of the design even includes rumors of a removable hardtop, which could be an additional option for drivers who prefer a sturdier cover.
With compact dimensions – 2,519 mm in length, 1,473 mm in width, and 1,501 mm in height – the Spiaggina is extremely easy to maneuver and park in tight spaces. The 230-liter trunk provides enough space to carry beach gear and other essentials. Additionally, the interior, available in blue/white or gray/brown tones, is made from moisture-resistant vegan leather designed for durability in beach and yacht environments.
Potential For The Tourist Market
Micro Mobility Systems AG sees great potential in the use of the Spiaggina as a solution for vehicle rental in hotels, theme parks, and travel agencies. The idea is to provide tourists with a unique and differentiated electric mobility experience, combining practicality and style. The first models of the Spiaggina First Edition will be available for sale in 2025, with a starting price of € 24,990.
Those interested can already add their names to the waiting list to secure the purchase of the microcar, and the reveal at the Paris Motor Show also introduced a Custom Program, where buyers can personalize their vehicle according to their preferences.
Production In Italy And International Expansion
The vehicles will be manufactured at the Micro factory in Turin, Italy, and will initially be distributed in the European market. However, the company has already shown interest in expanding to the United States, although details about this expansion have not yet been disclosed.
