Motorcycle performance, advanced technology, and unusual dimensions place the GSPACE Mars GS well above traditional urban scooters, while power, range, reinforced suspension, and electronic features help explain why the model also faces a major obstacle to regular circulation in Brazil.

The GSPACE Mars GS is a high-performance electric scooter offered in the GS8440 and GS7660 versions, with a declared speed of up to 128 km/h, 12-inch tires, traction control, and hydraulic four-piston brakes on both wheels.

However, instead of the 96 V commonly associated with the model, the current technical specifications from the manufacturer feature different configurations: the GS8440 uses a battery of 84 V and 40 Ah, while the GS7660 operates with 76 V and 60 Ah, with no official indication of a 96 V version.

GSPACE Mars GS range varies between versions

There are also significant differences in the range reported by GSPACE, as the GS8440 has a range of up to 170 kilometers, while the GS7660 can reach 220 kilometers, dispelling the idea of a single range of 190 kilometers for the entire line.

When presenting the Mars GS for pre-order, the company itself states that small adjustments in parameters may still occur as mass production progresses, which is why speed, battery, range, and components should be verified according to the version actually marketed.

Under the platform, performance comes from quite distinct setups: the GS8440 combines two motors of 3,500 W for a total nominal power of 7,000 W, while the GS7660 uses two 3,000 W units, totaling 6,000 W.

This difference is also reflected in the maximum speed claimed by the manufacturer, with the GS8440 able to reach 128 km/h, while the GS7660 tops out at 120 km/h, figures that place both far above the performance typically associated with scooters designed for daily urban commuting.

12-inch wheels and reinforced suspension

To handle this level of power, both versions use self-repairing 12-inch tires, hydraulic four-piston calipers at the front and rear, and an electronic EABS system, a combination designed to complement the mechanical braking capacity.

For the suspension, GSPACE adopted a double-arm front architecture, multilink system at the rear, pneumatic shock absorber in the front, and hydraulic assembly with separate oil and gas in the back, along with components made with T300 carbon fiber in the construction.

Another notable element is the TCS, an electronic traction control developed to reduce wheel slip on surfaces with low grip, while the G-Nue controller adds five speed levels and allows switching between Smart and Boost modes.

While Smart regulates power delivery according to speed and riding conditions to balance performance and consumption, Boost provides additional response for short periods, a configuration that, according to the manufacturer, is not recommended for inexperienced riders.

Even with carbon fiber components, the weight remains high for a vehicle in this category: the official specification indicates 62 kilograms for the GS8440 and 65 kilograms for the GS7660, a condition that makes manual transport and storage more challenging.

Brazilian regulations create obstacles for the Mars GS

In Brazil, the main obstacle lies in the regulation, as the Contran Resolution No. 996, dated June 15, 2023, considers a self-propelled individual mobility device to be one with a maximum nominal power of 1,000 W and a manufacturing speed limited to 32 km/h.

In addition to these limits, the same norm sets a maximum width of 70 centimeters and a wheelbase of up to 130 centimeters, determining that vehicles capable of exceeding the power or speed parameters receive regulations compatible with their technical characteristics.

When comparing to electric scooters, the gap remains significant, as the resolution establishes a maximum power of 4 kW and a maximum manufacturing speed of 50 km/h, which are lower than those recorded in the two configurations of the Mars GS.

With nominal power of 7,000 W and a declared speed of 128 km/h for the GS8440, along with 6,000 W and 120 km/h for the GS7660, neither version fits within the technical limits defined for self-propelled devices or scooters by Brazilian federal regulation.

Beyond these parameters, the resolution itself provides for classification as a motorcycle, moped, or tricycle, depending on the vehicle’s characteristics, which prevents the mere appearance of a scooter from being sufficient to exempt it from the requirements applicable to public road circulation.

Technology Reinforces High Performance Profile

In addition to the suspension set, brakes, and traction control, the Mars GS includes a proprietary controller with CAN communication, a digital driving interface, integrated lighting, USB charging, and electronic resources intended to provide various information during operation.

Altogether, the larger tires, increased power, weight over 60 kilograms, and speeds exceeding 120 km/h position this equipment in a technical range far from the self-propelled devices regarded by legislation as individual solutions for light mobility.

For prospective buyers in Brazil, the challenge is not limited to the price or announced range, but primarily involves the legal classification required for a vehicle whose specifications far exceed the limits established for self-propelled devices and scooters.

With performance comparable to that of motorcycles, a design based on a scooter, and specifications incompatible with the simpler categories outlined in Brazilian regulation, will the Mars GS be able to attract buyers despite the necessary requirements to legally circulate on public roads?
