Simple Technique That Went Viral on Social Media Uses Only Table Salt to Restore the Nonstick Coating of a Frying Pan
Anyone who has had to throw away a frying pan because food started sticking knows the frustration it causes. But now, a DIY trick is going viral for promising to restore the nonstick coating of the frying pan in just one minute — using only table salt.
The tip gained traction on TikTok and has been shared by creators like influencer Sophie Louise. According to her, the method works like an “emergency rescue” for when the pan starts to lose efficiency. And the best part: it can be done with an ingredient that everyone already has at home.
How the Salt Trick Works in Practice
The step-by-step begins by cleaning the pan with water, soap, and a soft sponge. After that, you need to place the pan on the heat for about one minute until it warms slightly. Then, add enough table salt to cover the entire bottom of the pan.
Using circular motions, the salt should be spread over the surface while the pan heats up. In a few minutes, the salt begins to darken, taking on a brownish color similar to desert sand. This process helps remove residues and reactivates the superficial layer of protection.
The Pan Works Again, but the Effect Is Temporary
After use, the burnt salt needs to be discarded carefully. Using a damp cloth, remove the excess hot salt, and the pan is ready for immediate use. In tests shared by the influencer, fried eggs slide off easily without sticking to the bottom.
Although effective, the trick does not replace the original coating of the frying pan and should be repeated frequently. It’s ideal for those who need to save time before replacing the utensil. Since salt is cheap and accessible, the method offers a practical and economical solution — even if temporary.
