The Anticipated Frigate Tamandaré Is Getting Closer to Its Launch to Sea. Recently, Dredging Began at the Thyssenkrupp Brasil Sul Shipyard, Located in Itajaí, Santa Catarina. This Process Is Crucial to Prepare the Shipyard Dock to Receive the Frigate and Ensure Safe Depth for Its Navigation.

The dredging is being carried out by the dredger RAM 316, which is deepening the shipyard dock. The dredger works like a huge vacuum cleaner, sucking up sediments from the riverbed and depositing them in a tank on board. Once the tank is full, the dredger transports these sediments to a specific area at sea, known as “bota fora,” where they are discarded.

The Frigate Tamandaré is already in the final stage of construction and is set to be launched to sea in August of this year. Four frigates of the Tamandaré class will be built, which are part of a larger project to modernize the Brazilian Navy. Currently, the first frigate is already out of the shipyard shed, in an outdoor area, where part of the bow and the superstructure of the ship is visible.
