Owners of Chinese electric cars from BYD, GWM and MG in the UK face difficulties securing insurance due to a lack of vehicle spare parts

Chinese electric cars, such as those from Chinese carmakers BYD, GWM and MG, are struggling in the UK insurance market due to a lack of spare parts availability. This situation has worried owners of these cars, who have encountered obstacles to guarantee the protection of their cars.

According to Auto Express magazine, British insurers are refusing insurance for car models from Chinese carmakers such as the BYD Seal, GWM Ora 03 and some from MG. BYD recognized the difficulty and promoted an event for insurance companies, exposing its strategy for distributing parts and maintenance solutions.

Lack of knowledge about the European parts market is highlighted as a problem

Experts point out that Chinese automakers still do not have the necessary knowledge about the European parts and workshop market, which has contributed to this situation. The quality of BYD's cars was praised, but the lack of understanding of the market was criticized.

In Brazil, Chinese automakers are also facing challenges, but the situation has not yet reached the point where insurers refuse electric cars. The availability of parts, especially tires with new sizes, already raises concerns among customers.

Chinese automakers BYD, GWM and Caoa Chery seek solutions for insurance companies

To overcome these problems with insurance companies, Chinese automakers in Brazil are expanding the supply of parts in their logistics centers. The automaker GWM, for example, debuted with a stocked parts warehouse. Caoa Chery opened a new parts distribution center in Franco da Rocha (SP).

While in the United Kingdom the resistance of insurers is already a reality, in Brazil Chinese automakers are preparing to face the challenges of the market, seeking to guarantee availability of car parts and customer satisfaction. The British situation serves as a warning to Chinese, Indian and Vietnamese automakers about the importance of understanding and adapting to local markets before launching their products.
