North Star S.A. Is The First Precious Metals Refinery In The Northern Region And Is Investing Over R$50 Million To Increase Its Gold Production
The first precious metals refinery in Northern Brazil, North Star S.A., is one of the few with an international standard of operation in the national territory regarding quality for operations. In an announcement last Wednesday (11), the mayor of Belém and the Secretary of the Environment of Pará stated that the company received an Operating License (OL) and will begin its activities associated with sustainable development in 2022.
To prepare its employees, mostly from Pará, and improve its structure, North Star S.A. invested R$50 million and promises to be responsible for 25% of the national gold production in Brazil. The company is based on ESG policies (Environmental, Social & Governance), focusing on three main pillars of society: Environmental, Social, and Governance. Additionally, the refinery follows an international standard of operational quality.

North Star S.A. Has Cutting-Edge Technology To Extract Metals And Promote Sustainable Development With Jobs In The Region
The license obtained by North Star S.A. will be a “game changer” in Northern Brazil and will bring more technology to the region, as well as increase jobs. However, the refinery has a comprehensive plan for the entire production chain, aiming for sustainable development and expanding exports of minerals from Brazil.

The refinery estimates an initial production of approximately 24 tons of gold per year and aims to reach 48 tons over time, which is equivalent to 25% of all gold produced in Brazil. In this way, the company intends to generate various jobs involving transportation, refining, and security. Also, according to the National Mining Agency (ANM), gold is one of the most important minerals for the national economy, as Brazil has a turnover of R$14.2 billion per year due to mineral extraction.
However, the refinery will use cutting-edge technology to highlight the Northern region of Brazil, making the country an exporter of refined gold with international standards of 24k, in other words, with 99.9% purity. As the production chain for exploration and refining gold is complex, sustainable development can be seen in various sectors, as it will bring greater consumption of domestic products and inputs and generate greater training and jobs.
The Refinery Acquired Italian Equipment That Optimizes Processes And Reduces Environmental Impact, Contributing To Sustainable Development
Thinking about sustainability, North Star brought refining equipment from Italy, as they are the reference in the international market for gold treatment. All procedures are strictly controlled by machines, and the gases emitted during the stages go directly to an exhaust system that leads to a compartment for neutralizing acids before being released into nature.
However, it is not only the activities involved in gold refining that are based on sustainable development, but the entire chain. After all, the refinery claims that ESG principles are the foundation of everything that happens within the company, from hiring local people to selecting clients and encouraging green initiatives. Thus, the company also exercises its social responsibility, providing jobs to those in need and offering training for a profitable activity.
