Sumitomo Rubber, owner of the Dunlop tire brand, reported that it will invest approximately R$ 1 billion to expand its factory in the state of Paraná, which will have its tire production capacity doubled by 2025, along with an increase in production of passenger car tires. As a result, an additional 300 people will be added to the current workforce of 1,600 employees at the plant located in Fazenda Rio Grande, in the metropolitan region of the capital city, Curitiba.
Yoshinori Wakitani, president of Sumitomo Rubber do Brasil, states that they have great confidence in the potential of the Brazilian market and expect that with this new investment in the factory, they will further consolidate their brands among Brazilian consumers by offering products that are benchmarks in safety and technology.
The factory located in Fazenda Rio Grande, Paraná, operates at peak capacity, in three shifts, 24 hours a day, seven days a week, producing 18,000 units per day for automobiles, a volume that is expected to increase to 23,000 per day with investments by 2024. In the case of truck tires, current production reaches 1,000 per day, with projections to more than double the volume to 2,200 per day by 2025. Rodrigo Alonso, sales and marketing director at Dunlop, states that the investments will not only be allocated to increasing production but will also focus on technology, particularly in compounds that reduce rolling resistance to decrease fuel consumption, as this also affects all processes of the factory.
