Enel Distribuição São Paulo Invests R$ 12 Million in Technologies

Investments in the electric sector of ENEL are in full swing. The company, aiming to improve the high voltage network, invested about R$ 12 million in technologies to enhance the performance in energy distribution.

Check Out the Initiatives:

  • Digital Mapping of Transmission Towers;
  • Online Monitoring of Substations and Transformers;
  • Use of Drones for Inspection;
  • Installation of 240 Sensors in 26 Transformers, Which Report Changes in Equipment Operation;

As a result, Enel managed to reduce the total number of occurrences at high voltage by over 60% between March 2019 and March 2020. In practice, this reduction also significantly decreased the impact on energy supply to consumers.

With the use of digital mapping, the company monitors over 6,200 subtransmission towers, controlling the growth of vegetation around and identifying potential defects. With the technology, the company plans maintenance, facilitating work and avoiding incidents. There is also the work of drones and helicopters, twice a year, to update images of the locations.

The company also invested in a structure that coordinates protection logic and, through a laboratory, simulates potential problems and develops automated digital restoration solutions.

According to Marcelo Puertas, in charge of high voltage at Enel, “at the beginning of this year, our concession area was impacted by heavy rains. Through this monitoring, we were able to track if any substation was flooded and whether the water level would compromise the equipment or not.”

“All these technologies help us perform predictive maintenance instead of preventive maintenance. In other words, we are preventing occurrences of interference in the energy supply for our consumers, keeping in mind that one substation can supply an average of 200,000 customers.”

According to Rosário Zaccaria, responsible for infrastructure and networks at Enel, “the technologies tested in the project that show positive results will be progressively expanded across our entire concession area. In high voltage, we are already operating them.”
