The value of a barrel of Brent oil may exceed USD 180 with the war in Eastern Europe, raising gasoline to R$ 10 and diesel to R$ 6,50 in Brazil. This week the price in reais has already passed R$ 700.
The war between Russia and Ukraine triggers a series of problems for the world economy. Russians are in third place among the main suppliers of oil on the planet. However, for invading Ukrainian territory, Russia is facing sanctions on all sides and has affected the distribution logistics of the product, which has caused the price of a barrel to exceed USD 110. How does Petrobras base its policy on price of fuels for the dollar exchange rate, it would not be a surprise that the prices of gasoline and diesel skyrocket even more.

The Brazilian had hoped that the price of gasoline would stabilize after the readjustments of recent months. However, the war between Russia and Ukraine caused an explosion in the world oil market and this could have direct consequences at gas stations here in Brazil.
Just this week, a barrel of Brent oil reached USD 139 (R$ 703) on international markets. An 18% jump, the highest level since 2008 when the all-time high was $147,50. And specialists already point to the possibility of the price reaching US$ 185, if the Russian supply continues to be interfered with by sanctions.

The price of a barrel of oil this Tuesday (08), according to the portal's latest survey Click Oil and Gas, is at USD 127,1 (BRL 645,41). Down around USD 12 compared to Monday morning (07). A barrel of oil has about 159 liters and its quotation fluctuates, both downwards and upwards, in the international market all the time.
Here in Brazil, there is already great pressure from fuel distributors to the Federal Government and Petrobras so that both try to hold back another rise in gasoline and diesel prices.
Projections are for gasoline at R$10 and diesel at R$6,50 in some states of Brazil while Russia and Ukraine continue at war. A high risk of inflation doubling the current double digits.
Petrobras has adopted the dollar-based price parity policy since 2016. Therefore, at this point, the state-owned company would already be lagging behind prices practiced in the rest of the planet.
Gasoline price in Brazil: thinking about shareholders X thinking about the Brazilian consumer
The Brazilian Association of Independent and Free Fuel Resellers (AbriLivre) is following with concern the oscillation in the price of a barrel of international oil.
Em interview with Jovem Pan, the president of the association, Rodrigo Zingales, said the Government, mainly those who are more favorable to economic liberalism, understood that this is a peculiar situation.
“It is important that, at this moment, we think about Brazil and not a restricted group of shareholders or even an ideology of a liberal policy (...) that fuels stop increasing, because this is terrible for the reseller, terrible for the consumer and bad for Brazil as a whole”.
